I have had 2 or 3 bbq thermometers die on me because they are not designed to be placed in liquid, not to mention sitting in a mash for an hour accidentally getting the wire wet. I bought a VWR thermometer on the recommendation of someone on this board and I absolutely love it. I checked the accuracy and it is dead on what they should be, and the best part is it is actually designed to be placed in liquid. While it is a little expensive, I highly recommend this to anyone who is getting frustrated that their bbq thermometers eventually crap out on them.
