picked up a 96 oz can of vinter's harvest blueberry at the LHBS last weekend and was going to throw this together this weekend. my question is should i be making this as the 3 gallon or the 5. i'm wondering if the 3 gallon would be too strong or if the 5 gallon is too weak. has anyone done one of these lately that could dish some advice?

thanks

I would do just over 3gal (3.25, or 3.5) in a bigger primary, then rack into a 3gal glass carboy and taste the remaining liquid ontop of your trub. Keep letting it age until it's smoothed out enough to drink.

What are each of your fermenters made of, plastic or glass?

primaries are plastic, all i have are 1,5,and 6 gallon secondary glass carboys tho, haven't got anything yet to do a 3 gallon batch

You could split it up into three one gallon batches and experiment with each using different methods.
The first batch you could finish it like you were planning on.
For the second you could age it with oak chips.
For the third you could maybe backsweeten or leave it dry. Depending on what you did with your first gallon.
Just suggestions. I like to experiment. :mug:

Noe is right. If you can split batches into three or whatever, you can potentially triple your learning from one lot of ingredients. :)

I haven't done the blueberry, but the blackberry was a bit thin even at 3 gallons.

I have a 3 gallon better bottle, and I love it. I'd highly recommend getting one sometime, as it has a handle and it's lightweight. It's easy to move around, and I use it far more than I thought I would. I make three gallon batches all the time now.

thank you all for the responses, i got busy with construction this weekend but will throw together a 3 gallon batch this week sometime
