Ok so I feel like a noob for sure so I had to post here. I was cleaning my primary while I was doing a parital mash and I grapped a #5 stopper to plug and clean and the darn thing fell in becasue I grabbed a smaller stopper...I had to go ahead with the beer and it seems ok. Any ideas on how to get this out? if at all and will it affect anything?

Relax is the first thing to do. Wait until it's done fermenting in the primary. Rack to a secondary and then get that little booger out. You'll be fine! Just don't panic! It'll probably be one of your best brews.

AH HA HA HA HA HA!!!

Smooth move!

I pushed my 6.5 stopper straight in to my carboy full of wort on my very first batch

Seriously though...

Happens to most folks at some point... er um, yeah, yeah. Was the stopper sanitized? Am I correct in understanding you just left it floating in there? Should be fine if it is sanitized. I pulled my stopper out using a either a piece of coat hanger or a metal shishkabob skewer, can't recall. Poked it thorugh the hole had a loop and pulled it thorugh. A #5 should come out easier than mine did! Good luck.

Iknow the beer will be fine I was looking for any ideas on how to fish it out of the bottle..

Leave it and pour it out with the trub. It won't hurt anything and you risk an infection spending 20 minutes fishing through murky fermenting wort.

I did the same thing. I racked the beer back into the primary fermenter, fished out the stopper with a crochet hook and then re-racked the beer. D'oh!

I don't think I mentioned that I believe my first post here on HBT involved a rubber grommet being pushed through the lid on my bucket into my primary when I put my airlock on.

Welcome to the true brewer's club- the "I pushed the stopper/grommet into the primary" club. I went to the LHBS and bought another $.35 grommet and it never happened again.

Real Homebrewers have been elbow deep in a bucket of beer, trying to find a grommet. (Similarly, real gay man have been elbow deep in Orpheus, also looking for a grommit).
