Ok, so this is an extract kit with grains from Midwest supplies.

Grains
Extract
Hops
Brown sugar, and cinnamon

So all that info aside, I plan on adding 2 30oz cans of Libby's pumpkin to the recipe, but not sure when to do it.

I'm thinking about putting it in a nylon bag and steeping it with the grains. What do you think? Anyone else try something different?

I find you get more of the flavor from the secondary. You may want to do half and half. Just toy with it brewing is for fun And pleasure!!! Oh yeah it's like mush so a bag may work for some filtration. But you will just have to let it settle into trub and loose a little brew in the end.

in with the steeping grains, into the boil, or secondary. All work. Just make sure you roast the pumpkin before for about an hour at 350-400 degrees, so it carmelizes and brings out the flavor.

I think I'm going to do it in 3 stages.

1 15oz during the steep
1 30oz during the boil
1 30oz during secondary

Any thoughts?

You might want to do each as 3 separate batches rather than th same batch to see where your best flavor comes from. Doing all 3 in one batch will not tell you which is most productive.

You are not going to get a lot of flavor from the pumpkin it will be more from the spices. See my thread "experimental brewing photo album". (id link it but im on my phone sorry!) I brewed a black pumpkin saison with pictures in the thread!

I seasoned and cooked that canned pumpkin and then put it in muslin bag and added to the boil.

Really only the spices come thru.

I was really going for the color with with steep and boil. I figured adding the pumpkin directly to the secondary would give it most of the flavor?
