I am making a cream ale tomorrow and I want to add vanilla extract to the recipe. When should i put the vanila in? Boil, primary, secondary or bottling bucket?
You shouldn't. Use vanilla beans for a better taste, during the boil or after fermentation has finished, like dry hopping, for a week-10 days IMO. Sanitize with a soak in vodka if using after the boil.

When I brewed mt vanilla robust porter, I made an extractive by scraping two vanilla beans & cutting them up into 1" pieces into the little jar they came in @ Giant Eagle. Poured in about half a jar of vodka & sealed it. I let it sit during primary fermentation. I added it to the priming solution myself. But however/whenever you add it, it doesn't last long in the bottles. It eventually dissipates.
I use Penzey's & add to bottling bucket. I usually bottle 1/2 the bucket, then add extract so I can contrast the difference. So far have used for porter and cream ale with good results. (When you soak vanilla beans in vodka you end up with ......vanilla extract!)
