Hey all,

I am wondering when it is best to add the dextrose and vanilla to my boil. What do you guys think?

When i brew my milk chocolate stout i add the dextrose in the last 10-15 min. Are you using vanilla extract or beans?

For my vanilla porter I use 2 vanilla beans (split, scraped and cut up) for the last 10 min of the boil. Then I soak 3 beans (split, etc) in vodka for a day and add to the fermenter about 5 days before bottling.

the vodka trick is a good one. It'll make an extract and be more potent. How much vodka do you normally use for a 5 gallon batch?

Use as little vodka as you can. Just enough to cover the beans. You don't want a liquor taste in your beer. Then pour the whole mess, beans and all, into the fermenter.
