Tonight I drank a bottle of Schneiders Dopplebock beer (nice stuff) and noticed that there was yeast sediment in the bottom. Of course, the light went on and I thought: what about culturing the yeast and using it in some home brew? Can this be done? Any thoughts?

Cheers,

Absolutely. There are some posts here that discuss how. Basically, you need to "feed" the yeast some sugars...(dried malt extract)...and make a starter that way...Boil a little water with DME, let cool, add yeast, let sit with airlock or foil top, leave room temp. until it foams up some...something about flaming the lip of the bottle at some point...not sure...search for the posts....
