Has anyone ever tried to use argon gas to preserve "real ale" (UK native style) casks after they are tapped? I've always wanted to try to brew cask ale but I have never tried because I've heard they will spoil after 3-5 days and I cannot drink that much beer that fast.
I was thinking of attaching a beer engine to a keg/cask (primed with sugar), then adding a low pressure supply of argon with a spunding valve attached with a low pressure setting on it.
Apparently, I was speaking to a guy who runs a small brewery at work, the key to the real ale taste is using air rather than Co2. You just can't get that taste from co2 carbed beer.
