Hi everybody,

I have the william's brewing 'Brewers Edge' system which is 110V 1600W and i enjoy every second of using it.
I might be moving to Europe pretty soon where the electrical system is 220V. I'm wondering if any of you had experience with a converter such as this one for example:
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/889542-REG/TOPOW_st2000_ST_2000_Step_Up.html

I'm not talking about this specific model (although if someone used it i would be happy to understand the pros and the cons) but just in general using a converter for such power (1600W) and purpose.

If you have any other ideas i would also be happy to know.

Thank you!

Yes, I've used a very similar transformer for stepping up 120V to 240V for a Gaggia Espresso machine.

The 2kW model worked perfectly well with the 1475W Gaggia Classic.

BTW, you can buy them on eBay, and getting it shipped to your new European address is probably cheaper than getting one shipped to you, and then paying to ship it to Europe. They are heavy.

Don't know anything about europe.....Or elect. for that matter...LOL. Can you just split the 220 into 2 110v like here?
Jack

you can use a simple 15amp european adapter (if you can find one rated that High) but you would be much better off to sell the weaker 110v version here and just buy the cheaper more common 220v european version which will honestly work better (more powerful to reach temps quicker and provide a stronger boil)

Thanks, i thought about this idea but I could not find a European system that would be in the same ballpark price-wise, even if i include 100$ converter.
Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks

a lot of places have this and the robobrew. the thing is I bet your looking right now at mainly all The US market websites for a european version of a product so your not going to have as much luck..

I got an email quote from alibaba after just looking around there for a "35L brewing " The quote was for $178 shipped for the brewers edge with all the accessories... but it was the european 240v version... like these.. without the basket or chiller its about $80-100.. big markup vs manufacturer prices on these things.

I also saw them on ebay and Kegkings website as well as the robobrew with is a step up in functionality as far as grainfather clones I believe..

Thank you very much!! I will definitely look into it.

toatally different power here... for one its 60hz power here and 50hz there which effects some things and how they work because it changes the timing of the pulses of power. Also our 240v power is made from two legs of 120v and theres is different... im not sure but I believe they have 240v on one leg of power?... I really should know this..
Anyway it really would be in your best interest to just buy a replacement IF and when you move to Europe.

Yes, UK/EU power is 225-240V 50 Hz single phase at the wall (typically 13A sockets in the UK, 10A in Germany etc., I think). The feeds to houses are either single phase (typical in the UK), or three phase (more common on the continent, I think).
