I transferred my Extra Pale Ale into secondary this morning and I want to add my home grown Chinook hops now. I bought a couple muslin hop sacks so I wouldn't have to filter the hops out at bottling time but now I'm curious. Do I need to "sanitize" the hop sack? I don't want to do anything to infect my beer so I figured I'd rather sound dumb than be dumb :D

Well boiling will sanitize it really I believe, but I err on the side of caution and sanitize mine anyway just in case you know, i've already got a bucket o sanitizer sanitizing other crap, why not toss the bag in there for good measure

Anything that spends 15 mins or more in your boil will be sanitized. Even the leaves and bugs that fly in during the boil (I do my brew outside).

He is talking about a bag that didn't go through the brewing process to dry hop in.

I always boil mine in a bit of water and then add the hops.
