Hello HBT,
Stumbled across this site a few months ago and been lurking ever since. Getting back into homebrewing after a couple year sabbatical where I only brewed maybe ten gallons a year. Must say i have been very impressed with this forum and finally thought why not just join? Been extract brewing for 5 years, an just started all grain brewing this year (thanks to some excellent Wikis in the DIY forum). Just wanted to say hi and ill probably post up when i have something to contribute!
Cheers,
Urban

Welcome to hbt... Most of the folks here are helpful and are generally interested in helping others brew great beer.

Hey Urban... welcome to HBT, LOTS of Indy brewers here. Collectively we buy grain and hops and would welcome you to do the same when we start buying in bulk again!

Fellow Brewers,
Thanks for the welcome to the forums.

Fellow Indy brewers,

A few questions of a local/regional nature:

Anyone know water chemistry for the area? What is the water source White River? Eagle Creek? Ive thought about using water from the Artesian Well at flowing well park, has anyone done this?

Ive been planning out some equipment upgrades to move up to larger batches, and will need some welding work done, any welders you would recommend or caution against?

Homebrew clubs are any of you members of a local club or have an opinion to share on them? I've thought about joining Foam Blowers but I dont have alot of free time for meetings.

@ The Pol, I will check back for future group buys, unfortunately I just bought a bag of Rahr 2row and have no room for more grain at the moment. However group buys sound like a great idea, great job organizing it.

Urban... welcome.

I am not a member of any organization here in Indy. On the water issue, I live out near Plainfield and our water is not useable for brewing, so I build my water from distilled and water salts.

Also on the group buys, I think most of us are flush with grain and hops from some group buying this summer, so we will be looking ahead to 2010 for those to continue.

I just picked up 40 pounds of specialty malt today, and will be taking delivery of about 173 pounds of base grains to add to the 100 pounds that I have on hand currently.

I am also going to begin lagering very soon, picked up some yeast today witht he grain, so if you have any knowlege of lagering, Id welcome some input.

The Indy guys seem to be a pretty tight knit group, I have met most of them on here and they are all super fellas. Looking forward to hearing more from you here.

With regards to the water issue, it depends on what part of Indy you are in, but generally the water is hard and needs adjustment for lighter beers if you are AG brewing. Like The Pol I use a lot of distilled water, up to 75% of a batch is distilled for lighter beers like cream ales. I am on the northwest side.

I've been to Flowing Well park many times when I live in Fishers, but never used any of the water from there...
