What do you do?

I just heard the phone ring. I looked at the receiver, and it was from a name I never heard of, so I chose (As I usually do when I don't know the name) to not answer it.

I didn't do this because it might be spam. I just choose not to pick up the phone every time I hear it ring. I like to choose who I speak to on the phone, just as I try to do in life.

Are you a compulsive phone picker upper? Or are you like me, and can leave it as a mystery? I know a good many people that just CANNOT leave a phone ring. Are you one of those?

Just looked over and someone named wife is calling me right now,

Its ringing, and ringing, and ringing, and ringing, oh look at that it just stopped. How weird :D

I don't answer unknown calls either, but then I always wonder who it is if they don't leave a message :D

Depends on what mood im in. Most of the time I like to harass telemarketers and/or people that call a wrong number.

I'm definitely not one of those people. I don't pick up unless I know the number. If its something important they'll leave a message.

Part of this has to do with the fact that the person who previously had my phone number clearly got themselves into financial trouble. I get constant calls from collection agencies. Those I do call back and tell them they have the wrong number. Otherwise, they keep calling or they eventually sell the case to another agency. My favorite is when I call back and they don't believe me and think I'm the deliquent. Those calls are fun! My phone carrier obviously recycles numbers to quickly.

Eliminated the "land line" years ago & the phone solicitations stopped. When we did have the "land line" we got these calls quite frequently. I just set the phone on the table & walked away. Hung it up when the beep, beep, beep thing started. I felt good about it. :rockin:

I don't have caller ID, so it's always a surprise for me when I answer the phone. Not too many people call me, though. Usually, friends will email about weekend plans, and my hockey team communication is all via email.

My daughter calls all the time, so usually whenever the phone rings I assume it's her. Occasionally other people call, but not too often.

I answer. I like to be rude to the poor sap on the other end making a cold sales call.

I once kept a sap on phone 30 minutes asking all manner of relvant questions to the product (lawn service) only to finally ask him for an on-site eval and gave him my old apartment address.

I hate cold calls. And the do not call list is a joke.

I especially like the cold survey calls. I have so skewed some result on that it's pathetic.

WTH, Gnome. Not taking my calls again.

I get more spamm calls on my cell than I do my landline.

Anyone ever get a fake ID sent? I get unwanted sales calls all the time for my business. I know the usual numbers and don't answer them. Recently I have had calls come in that have a local ID, I pick up thinking its for business and It's a salesman from California. They certainly don't get any business from me with those ethics!

Um, that was me. Have you been shirking my calls? :D

I had a message a couple of weeks ago from some poor woman asking why my company had charged her credit card! Needless to say, as I am not a company, I got right back to her and told her so. This poor woman was beside herself with worry, and I wasn't too happy about things either. Every time she called this NY number she was given she ended up calling me!

In the end I just called Superman. He got together with the league of super heroes and I think they used their powers to locate the culprit and they encased him in a ball of plasma then forced him into the fifth dimension until he promised to stop bothering her.

Must be Wednesday.....Nothing better to do. :(

I pretty much answer all unknown calls, but only because my business card has both my cell phone and office (home land-line) numbers on it, so I would lose business if I ignored all unknown callers... Like someone else said, it's the 'known' callers that I ignore haha.

Same here. I used to get a ton of calls on my mobile phone from skip trace or debt collection outfits looking for people I don't know - sometimes three or four a day. It's a company paid phone and I can't just ignore "unlisted" calls since we have offices that also make their numbers private.

Most of them are straight up rude and don't believe they have the wrong number, even when I can't pronounce the name of the person they are looking for...

if it's a number i don't know, i won't answer it. i figure if it's really important then the person calling will (or should) leave a message. :mug:

I'm a big fan of answering telemarketer calls and putting them on hold. "Um ok, but can you hold on a second, there's someone at the door." Set the phone down and then hang it up when I hear it start beeping. :)

That's a good one - and you're not being nasty, just wasting their time in the same way they'd waste yours. I like it!

Unfortunately right now I have to answer all my calls. I am waiting an a few call backs for jobs after graduation. Normally, I wouldn't answer anything from any number I don't recognize, just let it go to voice-mail.

The best part about cell phones? I don't even have to considering answering it when the power is off! :rockin:

I do this 100% of the time, trouble is I rarely check voicemails, drives me absolutely nuts when its a friend saying: Hey its me gimme a call. I called my voicemail, entered the password, listened to the computer voice tell me the day and time to hear that??? tell me what you wanted to talk to me about!!

now they all just text me!
