Moving to London in the new year and wondering if there is anyone here doing electric brewing? I current have a 5500 watt brew setup running and wondering about typical circuit size in UK. From the places I've stayed it seems like 15 amps @ 220 is the average.

What size elements do you use/available in the UK?

Average would be 13 A 220V or if you use the cooker circuit 30 A at 220v.

I brew with a 3Kw heating element which is fine for 5 Uk Gal/23 litre batch and is the biggest that can be used on a common domestic supply.

Good Luck aamcle

Most brewers in the UK do electric brewing over propane. Check out Jimsbeerkit forums for example.

UK voltage is typically 240V at the wall, although it's specified as 225-240V after EU harmonization. The largest domestic outlets you will find will be 13A, which allows 3.3 kW.

You can easily buy polypropylene brewing boilers with power control and elements already built in that just plug into the wall there, for around £100.
