tell me what you think. Will it be good? Drinkable?

5 Gallon:

10 lbs. Belgian Pale
1 oz Summit (60 min)
1 oz Summit (30 min)
1 oz Summit (1 min)
Wyeast West Yorkshire 1469

Summit with the West Yorkshire seems strange. I would use like s-04 or s-05. But give it a shot a is. I would say it would be drinkable.

Unless you -- like me -- think Summit smells like a rotting onion in a bowl of tangerines.

oh good to know. Ive never used summit hops or the yorkshire yeast which is why I wanted to experiment. I was going off of descriptions and reviews given online

Summit seems to be a hop that people either love or hate. There are some really nice fruity notes in there, but for some of us they're destroyed by this dirty onion character.

If you happen to be in Michigan, the most recent Short's ControversiALE is a good example of what I'm talking about.

Seems like an odd combo to me also, but have at it and report back with tasting notes! Summit would quite literally be the last hop I'd try out in SMaSH, but that's just me.

Are you approaching a SMaSH because you want to test the flavors of these ingredients or are you really hoping this recipe will be a great beer on its on?

Both to try ingredients out and have a good drinkable beer. I chose summit because I've never used it before and I read that they are good for both bittering and aroma. Any suggestions on what to use instead?

well, tip of my tongue:

continuous hop some Warrior or Columbus; drop like 0.2 oz every 5 minutes.

Nelson Sauvin as a first wort and a late addition to get the bitterness and sweetness.

Maybe some Brewer's Gold and get some spicy fruity flavors.

Cascade for that traditional, pacific northwest citrus zing.

Willamette for some earthy, woody bitterness.

I have a pack of German Tradition in my freezer that I bought by accident (it was in the Tettnang bin) that I've been meaning to use...

I've been wanting to try Glacier too.

I just did an IPA with a 50/50 mix of summit and cascade and it smells and tastes like bottled BO. Total raunchy onion smell. Ill never use summit again.
