So, I finally got the valve that comes with it off, saved the O-ring and put that on the nipple, but it won't fit. Every page I look at with instructions has the same size for these to put in your cooler. What should I do? It fits well without the O ring as far as width, but can't get both in and if I did it wouldn't be long enough. What to do>? Don't mean to ask stupid questions, but what is my next step if this is my scenario? I have a 10 gallon cooler.

the nipple won't fit in the hole in the cooler when combined with the O ring, but will without it. It is not long enough when the o ring is fitted to reach the other side and I can't fit both objects through the hole in the cooler at the same time, but anything smaller seems like it just wouldn't fill the hole. Strange scenario.

By O-Ring, do you mean the black O-Ring that you purchased or the seal on the inside of the cooler that came with the cooler?

The valve's threads should fit through the cooler and gasket and then you attach the nipple. Your's doesn't look like this?

Screw the "instructions.
Get yourself a patch of neoprene and punch a hole in it.
