Hello fellow brewers.

I just started a brew and need help calculating the original gravity, or a ballpark estimate. The issue is that I'm adding honey to my primary at 2 different times after fermentation begins. The fermentables are:

Boil:
.5 lb caramel 40
.5 lb victory malt
.5 lb honey
6.5 lb light LME

After 1 day in primary:
1 lb honey

After another 2 days:
1 lb honey

I took a reading as I moved the wort to the primary. It was 1.051. However, I'm not sure how to account for the honey additions. I'm using White Labs wlp810. Any thoughts on how to get an estimate of the OG?

Thanks!

According to another thread, "honey has a ppg of 35 ... this means that 1 pound of honey in 1 gallon of liquid will at 35 points to it..."

So with 2 lbs of honey, you'll be adding 70 points to 1 gallon. You didn't mention how many gallons you were making, so, if it's 5 gallons, then you'd have added an additional 14 gravity points, for a total OG of 1.065.

Someone else ought to confirm this though...
