Well it's finally here. My Blichmann 14.5 Gallon Fermentor with SS Tri Clamps. This thing is massive. My goal is to get this into rotation ASAP, but Im not too sure it's going to fit in my old over/under fridge. If it does it is going to be really tight fit. I may end up having to build a box around this and use an old dorm fridge's guts to keep it cool.

These tri clamps though are the most heavy duty pieces of equipment Ive seen in a while. Once you get the idea of how they work down they are a piece of cake. Everything breaks down after fermentation very easily for cleanup. Ill report back once I get my first brew in them. And now for a few pics.

Nice unit. Do you age in bottles or kegs then? If so, how long do you leave the beer in that fermentor?

I havent bottled in years, so I age in kegs. This will keep a beer in it for about 10 days then if I really need to secondary then ill rack to carboys. Mostly it will go into kegs for aging though. I am really excited about being able to grab slurry for future batches. That and bulk fermentation. No more scrubbing two carboys anymore.

Now only if those 10 gallon cornys werent so expensive.

How does the triclamp attach inside for the racking port? I just got a 14.5 but traditional, very nice, but a lot of thread tape. Thinking of parting out the cost of building one up from a TMS 27 gal cone and using the 15 gallon replacement lid to solve that part of the problem.

No tape needed. Rubber gaskets make the watertight seal on every connection

Congratulations! That is a thing of beauty. I will have one someday when I can afford it. Until then is just a wort dream.
