So just out of curiosity, who here boils or treats their top off water (if you're doing a partial boil)? I ask because I've done three batches and haven't done anything to my water before I combined it with the wort (none of the 3 are done yet, but I tried one bottle and it was pretty good).

My water here is pretty pristine and when I did canned extract kits, I added top up water as is to my brews without suffering any ill effects.
These days I wouldn't take a chance without insuring my water was preboiled and cooled before top up if I were to use top up water.

I usually boil my tap water the day before brewing or use bottled water. Either way, I let it chill in the fridge, which means I don't have to chill my wort as much (The cold water takes it down from 90 degrees to the mid 60s).
I don't usually treat it since my tap water is fairly middle-of-the-road as far as mineral content goes.

My city water is very good, with no taste of chlorine, and no chloramines in my water. So, I never boiled it and had great results. In general, if your water smells good and tastes good it's ok to brew with. Water ran through a water softener, or extremely hard water, probably are a different story.

I too have drinkable city water (no chlorine or chloramine taste). I just pour in the appropriate amount without treating it or boiling it. Ther ehave been no ill effects to report.
