I was wondering if anyone here transports their wort. I am mainly wondering how it would be done, if at all.

Lets say you go to a friends house for a brew day. Either because he has equipment you don't have and/or you have equipment they don't have. So you help your friend brew a batch of beer then clean the equipment and then you brew an beer. How would you get that wort back home (assuming you haven't pitched the yeast yet).

I was just thinking of putting the wort in a sanitized corny keg (so it is sealed) and rack to primary and pitch yeast when I got home. Would that work?

I know it is a risk of infection but not much more than people who rack to a secondary, or would the risk be that much higher with wort?

Assuming after you seal the wort in the keg you help your friend clean up, load your stuff in the car, drive home, sanitize the racking equipment, rack to primary, then pitch yeast and add airlock. (total 1-1.5 hours pass) or would it be better to pitch yeast in keg (keeping in mind there is no airlock and still has to be racked)?
 
Sanitized Corny would be the best option, IMO. In fact, you could just ferment it in the Corny if you want.
 
I just moved apartments at the beginning of the month. Had 20 gallons in primaries and another 5 in secondary with airlocks. Decided it would be way easier to just move them as is (and less risky!) then bottling first. Fit them all in the trunk of my Mazda3 perfectly. Just drive VERY SLOW. Especially around corners and avoid speedbumps in your neighborhood. They should be fine as long as you let them sit for a week afterwards. Just check the airlocks after to make sure the sanitizer didn't get sucked in.
 
Some of us do that often. It should be fine, whether you pitch before transporting or not. Chill the wort as usual, then close it up. It'll survive a ride home just fine.

I can't remember who it was, but they posted a picture after their group brewday and one of the pictures was of the carboy, on the front seat with a seat belt on it.
 
I wouldn't want to risk spilling a carboy or having anything with an air lock on it (where the wort could splash out or airlock fluid sucked back in). Besides in my area I would get a ticket for driving with an open beer (or the vodka in the airlock). Not only that but my friends house is about 5-10 miles away. Some highway driving involved. I am leaning toward the corny at this point.
 
Those plastic cubes or "winpacks" used for no chill brewing.

My friend comes over, we brew 11 gallons. I put his half in the cube HOT, he takes it home and ferments the next day when its cool.

I just did the corny trick for my roggen. We brewed 11 gallons at a friend's house. I sanitized the keg really well, including pushing some starsan out the dip tube and the gas in post. Then filled the corny to the top with wort, dipped the lid in starsan and put it on the keg. I hosed down the extra wort spillage and set it aside.

We had dinner, a couple of beers, then I caught the bus home. Yes, I took the keg on a bus. In an army duffel bag though, didn't want to be asked 'what's in the keg?"

When I got home, I sanitized a carboy and racked over the wort. I bet you didn't know that a full-to-the-top corny is really close to 5.5 gallons, did you? Yep. It is!

I just toss my alepail on the floor behind the passangers seat and go. I wait till i get home to pitch because 100 day texas heat leaves me with no temp control.
