So here is a problem I am about to run into...
I brewed last week with a buddy of mine and we split a 10 gallon batch of saison. About 3 days later I found out I got a job I applied for and I am moving this coming thursday... my saison is not done nor am I willing to sacrifice it.

Here is my idea to transport it.
It is currently at 1.019 so fermentation is winding down, I am thinking about tranfurring it into a corny keg, purge all the oxygen out, and hookup the gas post and a line into a growler filled with starsan. Luckily it's a saison and it's going to be in a hot trailer so temp will be ok for it.

Does this seam like my best option or does anybody have any other ideas?
It's going to be a 10 hour car drive so it's not like it's a short trip

Unsure what your setup is like, but I moved a couple of weeks ago in the middle of a 5 gal brew of California Common. Due to the move, I decided to keg after air lock activity ceased, so about a few days ahead of schedule. I was then able to draw and drink off of the keg before moving.

We packed up the kegerator, half full corny keg and all, and packed it on the moving truck. Was loaded in the later morning and unloaded that afternoon/evening.

Beer was still cold.

I have 5 gallons in a PET carboy and one gallon in a bucket.

I am more worried a out oxidation/splashing if left in the carboy so that's why I am thinking of kegging it with the blowoff tube. I still have a decent ways to go on this one (needs to ferment to about 1.005)

Do like you say only leave the corny sealed. For a day of travel as long as it's purged of o2 and has some co2 added it will still ferment and not be a problem or if you can make a spunding valve so you can let some pressure out without exploding g your corny.

I think your kegging idea is a sound one. Put a nipple on your starsan growler of some sort to hoseclamp the blowoff tube to so it's a closed system and the blowoff hose won't come loose, maybe since you are going to be kicking fermentation up between the sloshing and the heat- go with something larger than a 1/2 gallon growler.

It may actually be a good thing that the beers is still fermenting- the sloshing might not cause as much "damage" since fermentation is going to still be happening and co2 is going to be produced helping reduce the chance of oxidation.

Can't wait to hear how ultimately the beer will turn out.

Leave a Corny with your buddy, then ask him to keg it for you when it's done. Then pick it up next time you see him.

I did get lucky with the fact it's a saison, and it has kindly stalled so the movi g might actually be good for kicking up fermentation

I'm moving 10 hour away...i know the guy it'll be long gone by the time I make it back

So I didn't realize this but I am out of co2....and I don't have time to go get some with all this packing. So what I have done is wrapped up the carboy's bung real tight. Filled up the bubbler pretty full the keep it more cut off from oxygen, and kept it in the keezer with a blanket to keep it from moving around. Hopefully this goes well...

I checked the gravity and it is down to 1.006 so there's a good chance it's done. This is pretty much my only option though.

Everything went Well! Made it to my location, pulled a sample that measure 1.002 and tasted great! Going to keg it once I get some co2 tomorrow!
