Hey fellas,

After 4 weeks in the primary, I am preparing for the bottling of my Honey Brown Ale. Since I used Danstar Windsor Yeast, the beer is still not very clear, so I was planning on cold crashing it for 3 days at around 40F in my garage (I do not have a ferm. chamber yet).

The thing is, to get it to my garage, I would have to walk with the fermenter and even with being careful, the wort would obviously be shaken a bit and the trubs would go back in suspension....right?

I am afraid the shaking will start the fermentation again or simply cause the wort to get even less clear than it was before...
Is it a big deal? Will 3 days be enough to complete the cold crash even after it's been shaken?

I could bottle right from the garage so I wouldn't have to move it again after the cold crash thought....
 
If you really want to cold crash, I would say you could let it sit in the garage for a few days, bring it back in, let it sit for another 30 minutes or something (it's still cold), and proceed with bottling.


Will all of the kicked-up trub floc back down in that 30 minutes? Maybe, maybe not. Will it be fine regardless? Probably. Your bottles will be crashing as well (in the fridge eventually), right?
 
You should be fine transferring it into your garage even if you shake more yeast into suspension during the trip. Your beer was in the primary for 4 weeks - fermentation is done. Stirring up the yeast is not going to kick-start fermentation again. Plus, you'll be cooling it down to 40 degrees which is going to cause the yeast to drop out anyway.

Since you can bottle from your garage, your beer should be relatively clear after 3 days at 40 degrees.

Go for it! Just be careful not to drop it!
 
It's really not that sensitive, the yeast cake packs down enough that you really needs to slosh it around to get a lot of stuff back into suspension. Minor sway while walking with it won't do much (I walk my 5 gal bucked from the 2nd floor all the way down to kitchen to immediately keg and there's never anything in suspension, cold crash and even less so).
