I split the 5.5g batch in 2 carboys. Now that fermentation is winding down I am thinking about how to combine them into one carboy for the initial secondary. My question is whether to leave the yeast in the carboy that gets transferred or dump it all in?

Leave the yeast. That's the point of secondary fermentation. If your gravity numbers match up, you're done. Get it off the yeast and let it finish up. I'm assuming you're putting both primaries into a single, seperate secondary?

Yea I guess your right, Im not sure why I thought I needed to combine the two other than in the secondary that is going to sit for awhile.

Are you transferring 1 of the carboys into the other? Or transferring both to a third vessel? I would do the later.

Good Luck!
