Hi,,, I was looking around for this, could not find it.

As you know, the 3 gal is a bit more portable to take out, and the 5 are a bit more complicated..

Can I transfer from the 5 to the 3? ...Leave the 2gal of brew in the 5 (drink later), and take with me the 3 ??

Any negative implications?? And how to I go by it, just pour it in, as if I were serving, just that into the other keg?

Tks !

You can hook the kegs together and use the gas to move the beer from one to the other. Haven't done it but know it can be done.

thanks bendbrewer...

one thing though, this is from sankey to corney....logic tells me that in this case...i should grab a hose and have the two quick disconnects on the opposite ends....connect both kegs to the output...pressurize receiver slightly, and connect the c02 tank to the feeder....to make the beer transfer
make sense?

Do like you say but "purge" the corny a couple of times, transfer to the output as you note, but keep the vent of the corny open to prevent equilibrium or the beer will stop flowing. Once you've got the corny full as you want, disconnect, close the vent, then pressurize with your serving pressure and you are good to transport, etc.

Cheers!

With a CO2 cylinder, regulator, line, disconnects, and your empty receiving keg, you can purge the keg by either:

a) gas disconnect to keg gas in or
b) beer diconnect to keg beer in or
c) no disconnects and drop line directly into the keg

You can vent by either:

a) pulling the relief valve of the keg or
b) pressing keg gas in poppet or
c) pressing keg beer out poppet or
d) taking the entire lid off or keeping it loose

CO2 is heavy, no matter how you pour in the CO2 it will sit in the bottom of the keg...you just need to displace the air above it by venting.

Then fill the keg...I'd fill from the Sanke to beer out of the receiving keg to prevent splashing with a jumper...beer out of Sanke connected to beer out of receiving keg...apply pressure to Sanke...vent receiving keg.

Once full, remove all lines, install lid if not already done, connect gas to gas in, purge a couple of times venting by a), b), or d)...[c)] will obviously get you no where but a few lost pints!

Got it? Good luck!

I oftentimes transfer beer from a 5 gallon corny to my 3 gallon corny for my portable kegerator using the method described above. Does anyone have a good way to tell how full the 3 gallon keg is getting without having to open the top or looking for condensation on the sides?
