Looking at a new brew stand and with it getting the Blichmann tower of power to automate.

Question regarding pumps, how far below does the pump need to be below the vessel you are pumping from? Trying to figure out the clearance as I am building a custom rig based on diverpats design.

I'm not an expert but I use a pump and I don't think it would need to be much lower then the outlet from the vessel. Maybe 12" Maybe even less.

My guess is that the pump would need to be low enough so that the wort will flood the input side of the pump when you open your kettle valve. So an inch or so is all it would need to be (this would be a minimum dimension, it could be much lower if you like.)

Hope this helps.

yes in theory this would work. but I expect some head pressure would help the pump operate properly.

My BK outlet valve is about 9 inches above the center of my pump and it works fine. You may consider putting a T with 2 valves on the outlet of your pump and then using one of the valves to prime the pump. That's what I do.
