Too much water in Yeast Starter

Too much water will lower the gravity and lessen the amount of sugars for the yeast. It will ferment but you probably will not get the desired cell production.

Since you can ferment beer without a starter you could use it. You will need to make the call on whether you think it will be enough.

1) out of curiosity, how much too much?
2) yes, it will still ferment okay.
3) no, you should not be worried.

Too much water will lessen the gravity of the wort. This will mean less sugars for the yeast to consume and use for propagation. You will get fermentation but will end up with fewer yeast cells than desired.

Since you can ferment beer without a starter you could use it as is. You will need to make the call on whether you have enough yeast for your beer.

Sorry for the double post. I have to figure out how to delete it.

there won't be less sugar, because although you have lower gravity wort, you have more of it. the amount of sugar added is what it is. you'll actually end up stressing the yeast less because the alcohol content will never get as high.

This. If it's not on a stirplate, just roust the yeast more often to keep it in suspension.

So, at this point, would it be better to just buy another smack pack and pitch w/out a yeast starter, or do you guys think I should just bite the bullet with the starter?

Just use the starter as long as you have enough sugars in it. Water is water, the yeast eat the sugar. As long as you used enough dme you'll be fine.
