Hey all, first post... By mistake we added an extra lb of extract to our tripel in place of the lb of sugar the recipe called for. What do you think the results will be? I'm thinking maybe a sweeter beer because the sugars won't be as fermentable. Will it be any good? Would love to hear your more experienced thoughts.

Your FG will probably be higher,so you'll end up with a sweeter beer with more body.
you could throw some brett in the fermenter after primary fermentation if you want to dry it out?

Not sure, I'm not home at the moment, I'd have to look at the recipe we used. That's what I was thinking though.

Or add water an call it "High Gravity" brewed...
You may need to adjust Hops too...

We used 3 packs of white labs wlp530, cause we didn't have time for starter.
Forgot to say it's been 3 weeks in primary, and we're gonna do 3 more weeks in secondary, so probably too late for the brett. Think we'll just wait and see what we get. Thanks for the help guys.

1 lb of extract vs 1 lb of sugar will probably add about .002 to the final gravity and make it a little sweeter than it would have been otherwise.

What can you do?

- Leave it as it is.
- Add 1 lb if sugar to offset the extract, and increase abv by ~1%.
- Add 2 lbs of sugar to offset the extract and dry out the beer as planned, and increase the abv by ~2%.

If it is an all extract tripel and you do not have any simple sugar, I think I'd add at least 2 lbs of table sugar.

Ok, update, transferred to secondary yesterday and it was sweet and almost fruity. Now I'm thinking about putting in sugar to dry it out for the next few weeks before we keg. Will The late edition still have time to eat up all the new sugars? I appreciate all your help guys.
