55 is definitely on the low end of most ale yeast strains.

Buy a cooler, and use a fish tank heater inside a water bath to warm your fermenter. If your target fermentation termperature is ~65F, set the bath to ~60-62F. The fermenting wort will create it's own heat and raise the temp.
