We have simple needs.

From their perspective their needs are probably simple too. They just see things differently from us and we forget to pay attention to that sometimes.

I try to tune into her needs as much as I can, I just don't like being forced to do it on certain days. Obligatory romance doesn't feel romantic to me.

I'm the same way with Mother's/Father's Day. I feel like if I only show them I appreciate them on that day, they won't know if I really mean it or if I'm just doing it because I feel obligated to. So I ignore that day and try to make up for it the rest of the year.
