i am brewing a coconut porter. When I added the coconut to the carboy I thought it would hydrate on it own but it’s just sitting on top after 24 hrs. I am wondering if I should lightly stir it or shake the carboy? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I regularly brew a light ale with 2lbs of flaked coconut in the fermenter. It should settle in over time, but if you feel the need swirl the fermenter around gently. I would not reopen to stir it imo. I don't know how much you put in there, but that is gonna be a pita to clean out of a carboy.
