My bosses always made it EXTREMELY clear to me that I was under absolutely no obligation to see alcohol to anyone. I couldn't quote you the exact statute, but they made it 100% clear that I would never get in trouble for refusing to sell beer to someone, even if they later proved to be of age. Now, they *may* have been telling me that just to make sure I was plenty confident to ask for ID and to BE a hardass, but I'm pretty sure that at least in the state of VT, if thy don't want to sell to you, they can't be made to.
I definitely see the point you make, and would tell an employee the same to prevent fines that underage sale brings. I'm not a lawyer, but have been told by a few(not concerning the sale of alcohol, just generalities) if a company has been incorporated then they are a public company, even if they have not released their stock, and cannot refuse to do business with any member of the public. I have no idea about VT. It kinda of sounds like a belligerence or drunk in public clause. I have used the Inc. situation in other instances where service was refused(all you can eat Chinese restaurant) and waited for the cops to show. The restaurant was told to either allow me continue eating or be prepared for a lawsuit that they couldn't win. You must remain calm and so you aren't assumed a physical threat for the cops to side with you though. Now where can I find an all you can drink beerpub?

Technically, the conducting of business is a fully voluntary, non-contract act. A business is a private space, and you can be ejected from Best Buy without reason or explanation.

I'm 22 and get told I look young all the time. Sometimes bar tenders look for a long time at my ID. I've not been served at one bar because I had a temporary paper license which is the way it's done in Oregon. You get a temporary ID at the DMV and they mail the real plastic card to you.

The worst is when I went to get my hair cut and the barber asked what high school I go to!

You could always try growing out your facial hair to look older. Most importantly though you need to get drinking some microbrew beer and report back to us.

Have you had that happen to you as well? ;)

What ejection from Best Buy? They keep a non-descript list of people who aren't allowed in best buy. Usually because they were determined to be thieves, but didn't actually steal anything, so couldn't be charged or kicked out for any real reason. The people that walk the CD aisles taking overplayed "casual" glances at the folks around them and fingering CDs instead of actually looking through CDs.

I had a clerk in Bennington look at my license and say "That's not real... that can't be you, you're not that old!" Was able to convince him, though. Same store, different day, woman happened to remember me from when I worked at the supermarket in town FIFTEEN FREAKIN' YEARS AGO. Mind you, I haven't even lived in town for > a decade.

Check their business license, if it says the are incorporated (inc.) they cannot refuse to do business with you

Businesses are private property, they can refuse to do business with just about anyone. When it comes to alcohol, this is especially true since it's MUCH more of a problem to sell and be wrong than refuse and not be.

To the original poster, you've got a great problem to have! The world is your oyster!

You said people tell you not to drink Bud, Miller or Coors, eh? Do. Go to the liquor store and get a can of each. Actually drink it. Taste a sip, try another, then the other. Notice the differences.

Then, put it out of your mind and prepare to have it blown (your mind, that is.)

Some of my personal favorites in no particular order are Rogue Mocha Porter, Whychwood's Hobgoblin and Anchor Steam but it's really great to try out beer and learn from it. If you enjoy brewing, you'll come to eventuall taste the differences between batches of the same beer. :) Till then, enjoy!

[EDIT: I'm a little druck, and it seems this might not be the right thread... The last post I read was the_bird saying he'd been told he's under npo obligation to sell to anyone...]
