Hi
Ive just bottled my 1st batch of beer. I used the carbonation drops as advised. I will now leave standing for 2 weeks.

SHould I periodically agitate the bottles or are they ok to leave alone and get on with doing their own thing?

I would leave them alone for a good three weeks (you can sneak an early beer if you want after a week). At the point, pop one open and see how the carbonation is. If you have completely flat beer than tip them upside-down and then right-side up so the yeast can be evenly distributed and then put them away for a few more weeks.
I can't remember when I brewed my IPA, but it took forever for it to carb.

Just walk away. Drops in bottle. Beer in bottle. Cap and walk away. Just leave them for a few weeks. The yeast don't need any help to do their job.

Walk away! Being one who has little patience I am sure I will find this quite difficult!
Memories of the over-protective father come flooding back upon the birth of my daughter, constantly checking to see if my fermentation is bubbling away, making sure it was warm enough. I eben wrapped a damn blanket around the fermenter to ensure it was warm enough.
I am happy to say that I stooped short of reading a bed-timer story to the fermenter and giving it a kiss good-night--but Jesus I came close!!
So I will try and walk away but it wont be easy!!!
