Hi All, this is my first post!
The carboy is ready and waiting for me to bottle or keg. Would it be OK if I siphon half of the 5 gallons into a keg and leave the other half in the carboy for a few days until I have a second keg ready? (I want to keep half at home and the other half at work as a stress reliever)

Thanks!

I have seen lots of recommendations to avoid headspace once primary is done, so this might be a problem.

More importantly, what kind of work do you do that you can drink homebrew on the job? Is your company hiring?

Good points I will wait or I might just put it all in the one keg tonight.
It is in the second fermentor now

Unless you're an alcoholic I don't see why you can't just wait 2 days and do them both at the same time. It's not ideal due to potential for oxidation. I guess if you transferred and then flushed the rest of the carboy with CO2 you may be alright.

You have a kegerater at home AND at work???

You just wrote that post to show off... didnya?

Yes some of us are spoiled at work. I am in charge of making sure that both kegs in our game room are always flowing!! Cheers!!

I would wait until both kegs are available and do it all at once.

You guys are characters..yes I have keg cooler at home (50 year old stainless steel, heavy unit holds one barrel its pretty cool I got it 25 years ago from a old neighbor that sold cheese to all the bars...still has the original R-22 refrigerant in it and runs like a champ!) and then I purchased a cheap used keg cooler (sears) for work..my guys (I have a small HVAC company) are all pumped up over me making the brew. Thats why I was going to split this one up but turns out I ended up puting it all in one keg last night and it at my house so they loose out on this one and I'm testing it now! so far so good!

If you get a second keg you can transfer some of the beer from one to the other under pressure. Be sure to purge the receiving keg with CO2 first. Of course, if the beer was especially good, I'd forget to make the transfer.:ban:
