Hello all! I'm still new to homebrewing, but wanted to try a double IPA. Does this recipe sound like I'm on the right track? Thanks in advance!

MALTS/OTHER:
• 6 lbs. light DME substitute
• ¾ lb. Vienna Malt
• 1 lb. Carapils
• 1 lb. Carmel Malt
• 4 oz. Corn Sugar

HOPS:
• 8 oz. Amarillo
• 3 oz. Simcoe

BOIL:

90 minute boil:

• Start: 1 oz. Amarillo and 1 oz. Simcoe
• 30 minutes left: 1 oz. Amarillo and 1 oz. Simcoe
• 20 minutes left: 1 oz. Amarillo
• 10 minutes left: 1 oz. Amarillo AND 4 oz. Corn Sugar
• End of Boil into Primary: 1 oz. Simcoe, 2 oz. Amarillo
• Rack to secondary with 2 oz. Amarillo (1 oz. Horizon on second dry hop?)

Looks good overall. Assume this is a 5 gallon recipe? I would move one of the simcoe's(probably the 30min one) to a dry hop to take advantage of its amazing aroma.

You could bump the sugar up a bit if you want a tad more ABV and a drier finish. Maybe 8oz or 1LB.

foltster:

Yes, it's a 5 gallon recipe. Also, I didn't write it in there, but steep the specialties at 151 for 60 mins.

I'll try moving the Simcoe and/or adding them as an additional dry hop. Thanks!

So essentially, you're saying I should up the DME a bit (to say 8-9 lbs) and hop later in the boil? I'm glad you said what you said in the first reply... I'm looking for 9-10% ABV and around 120 IBU.
