Purchased my first online recipe/kit. (extract)

it says...(in the a few days before section) Remove the LIQUID wyeast pack from refrigerator and smack as shown on the package. leave in warm place to incubate until pack inflates.


This is wrong and talking about dry smack packs, correct?
The liquid yeast is in liquid, but is clumped. is this ok? just shake it up? Was it frozen from shipping?

i do make a starter.

Should I take it out of fridge 1 day before starter or a few hours?

No the wyeast packs have a bubble in them with nutrients to get the yeast started. Pop the inner bubble and leave the pack at room temp the day before you make your starter. The pack will swell up some this is normal. Then make your starter as normal. Hope this helps out some.

My bad. The instructions DO say that, but I have liquid yeast. not a normal smack pack. im assuming the generic instructions dont know this. although they do say "liquid" and to smack
 
Sounds like you have a White Labs vial. I let mine sit out for a few hours prior to use. I give it a good shake to get the yeast off of the bottom. Then I crack the cap open just enough to let some air out. It will shoot out like a soda so you need to be careful to just vent the air then tighten it back up. Then when you are ready to pitch, shake it up again and repeat letting it vent again.
 
I am guessing he has a plain pack of Wyeast not an activator smack pack. Just let it warm up and make your starter.
