I have a blichmann thermometer that I got today and want to install it on my keggle but don't know if it is to close to the ball valve or heat from the propane burner. The black for to the right of the ball valve is where im thinking of putting it. what do you think is a good spot for 5 gallon ag?

You'll probably want a heat shield under it almost no matter where you put it as they are prone to heat failure. Pretty much any thermometer in the heat blast will suffer.

What type of material should be used for a heat shield and should it be mounted to the keg or stand?

Feel it with your hand. If it's hot, you'll need a shield. My roommates use keggles and there's been more than a couple fried thermometers. I think one had one of the holes in the keg directly under the thermometer though.

Depending on the burner you are using you can still get heat on the outside of a keggle, a cheap heatshield can save your expensive thermo.

Brewed yesterday and the entire time kept touching the thermo throughout the whole boil and it was lukewarm. Here is a shot of of my biab spill, first all grain that was somewhat successful besides knocking the grains everywhere after rinsing them.
