"In an experiment, clumpy yeast cells, like those shown in green, had an advantage over isolated yeast cells, like those in red. This was because cells in clumps captured food produced by their neighbors, which would otherwise have gone to waste. Scientists think this scenario could help explain the evolution of multicellular life."
