yeahnatenelson John hit all of the good ones above plus Wisconsin Cheese Mart has a bunch of craft taps and (of course) a ton of cheese and they always have lots of cheese open for sampling. If you want you can go across the street to Old German Beer Hall for a free lunch when you buy a beer.

I would buy you a beer too but unfortunately will be in the craft beer desert known as Nebraska.

I will 2nd Cheese Mart, they just put Black Husky on tap. Just don't get close to the river after a few, seems like guys in their 20's and 30's have been falling in lately and showing up dead.

I have no plans in MKE next Thursday. Brewer game Wednesday, Marquette reunion stuff Fri/Sat.

Whatever we don't crush tailgating, talk is we might open somewhere in Bayview Thursday night that is cool with bottleshares? Here's the box I sent out last week for consideration. Holla if ya wants to help suggesting a place or drinkin' these while tailgating/Thursday night.

My regular tasting group just set up a tasting for next Friday. I could see if they would want to move it to Thursday if you'd be interested in joining. This invite is open to any of you other MKE guys too. I haven't really met any of the MKE crew that are active on these boards. BM if interested.

Yeah but this might be awkward if the Heat/Pacers are still playing Thursday night and I wear one of my Wade jerseys! But otherwise, definitely interested!

Heading up to our place on Winneconne this weekend. Anyone with updates on Scream stocks in the Woodman's (Kenosha, Oak Creek, Menom. Falls, Appleton) on my way up?
I'd rather not hit the Kenosha one due to that clusterfuck of road work happening right now there, but I will if that's my best bet.
Thanks!

Should be everywhere.

I would think so too, but the last time I was up there over Memorial Day weekend, the Appleton Woodman's hadn't even gotten the Berliner yet.
I think I'll just hit Menom. Falls or Oak Creek to be safe.

Can't say I know much about distribution in or around Appleton. Scream is all over MKE at the moment.

Thanks guys! Just loaded up in Oak Creek. They're flush with it.

For anyone who wants it, they also had BA Numbskull and BA Wee Heavy on the shelf........at $37.99 o_O
I passed even though I really enjoyed the BA WH last I had it.

Taking a trip up to UP Michigan in July with the wife and near three year old. Looks like I'll be staying in Wisconsin on Saturday the 12th and Friday the 18th.

Thinking of hitting Milwaukee on one end and Madison/New Glarus on the other. Hard Hat tour looks to be sold out on the 18th. :(

Are the zoos nice?
Any other good things for the kid?
Can't miss places to eat?
Where to stay? Any good hotels/inns to stay further north (to cut down on driving to Michigan)?
Can I get all the Serendipity I need for the next year from New Glarus?
Can I only see one of the New Glarus brewery sites?
I need to load up on cheese.

Any other tips more than welcome...

I went up last year on short notice and the hard hat tour was sold out. I called them a week or two beforehand and let them know I was from out of town and they added me and 2 friends on. They'd probably do the same for you.

The milwaukee zoo is good. Henry vilas zoo in madison is smaller, but it's free if memory serves.

How old is kid? Under 5 yrs, there's the betty brinn museum. Over 5, there's the discovery world museum. The regular milwaukee museum is okay - but somewhat boring overall. Milwaukee has a pretty big park system. If you want to splash around in the lake I'd suggest the seven bridges trail.

I asked my 8yr old what her favorite stuff in town was and she added the domes.

Odd duck and la merenda (need reservations for both) are great for small plates. Can be spendy if you order a bunch.

Goodkind just opened up, haven't been (going tomorrow) but I've been reading a lot of positive reviews. Good food and lots of craft taps.

Milwaukee public market downtown is a solid lunch visit. Lots of cheese / local foods to stock up on here.

Comet and honey pie are good for 'comfort food' type food. la bavette is real good.

If you're into reubens, check out McBobs or Jake's deli (grand avenue mall one, the other is in kind of a sketchy neighborhood).

Serendipity should be all over the place in groceries (woodman's generally is a best bet for beer) Not sure about at New Glarus.

Safe House - It's been on the travel channel and what not. It's a unique spy themed bar (family friendly). Look it up.
Comet, Honeypie, Palomino - These are all owned by the same person/people. I enjoy them all. Comet does a lot with bacon. Their Compact Turkey dinner is awesome. Honeypie is very similar to Comet. I think my favorite thing I've had there is their Friday fish fry. Palomino's makes the best fried chicken I've ever had. Their menu seems to center more around BBQ.
Belair - Variety of tacos. They are all delicous
Smoke Shack - can't beat the brisket. It's smoked for 14 hrs (iirc). Mix a side of slaw with the brisket and the Kansas City BBQ sauce and you'll be set. Brisket is $19.
Carl Rausch or Maders - Classic German food. Both are excellent. Expect to pay $30/plate
Odd Duck - Must have reservations. I've never been but I've heard good thinks. Hoping to make it there for my bday this year. Expect to pay $30/plate

Can I only see one of the New Glarus brewery sites? I believe you can only tour the main site on the hill.

I need to load up on cheese. Bobby Nelson Cheese Shop. Same exit as the Mars cheese castle. Hole-in-the-wall, no gimmick, great cheese and sausages, Cash Only! Sure WI is known for cheese but don't pass up the kringle (you can thank me later). Don't buy kringle from the Mars Cheese Castle. Theirs is terrible. O&H or bust! http://www.ohdanishbakery.com/ohdb/CATEGORY?scrcatnum=980&scrclropt=N

They had it on draft at Goodkind on Friday.

By the way, go to Goodkind. Great beer list and the food was spectacular. Lives up to expectations...
Yeah - was there on Fri as well. Had some Gose (delicious, would love to find bottles), CW Call me old fashioned, and KBS.

Wife loved the cocktails but neither of us were too blown away by food, and considering the higher cost probably won't be back for dinner - would go back for drinks and dessert.

How did we not run into each other? We were at Goodkind from 6:15 till about 8, and then over the Burnhearts until 9:30 or so.

Crazy - we were there same time, near the "back" not by the windows.

I re-read your previous post and with your endorsement I'll have to give the place another shot... what'd you all have?

I had the Bucatini with Spicy Sausage and Dungeness Crab and my bride had the scallops. We also had the Fried Chickpeas, the Pork Paté, and whatever that almond cake desert thing was. The portions certainly were not big, but we both thought our dinners were delicious. That pork chop looked tasty and it looked like it was the size of my head though, and the half chicken looked really good too.

The Call Me Old Fashioned was interesting. Our waitress said that it would be bottled at some point, with a Goodkind label. She might have been blowing smoke up my butt.

I'm not sure if this is new news, but there are real details on new sours from New Glarus:

http://www.isthmus.com/beer/article.php?article=43082#.U7LE7r-SWv0.facebook

Nice article. Thanks. The key quote for me:

Carey adds he's planning a special release from his wild fruit cave for the Great Taste of the Midwest on Saturday, August 9. He hasn't decided just yet what that beer will be, though. In part, that's because making sours and lambic-style beers takes months of fermentation, and the final beer is often blended by taste.

"In other words, you have a barrel that is really sour and a barrel that is really sweet and then you blend them together to come up with something," Carey explains.

The Oud Bruin and lambic-style blonde were initially brewed back in February, and have been aging in oak ever since. "I want to go down to the Riverside Brewery and taste some barrels, put them all out, and see what I can come up with," he says, referencing his planned special beer for the Great Taste.

Proves for me that everyone who has "inside knowledge" on what this year's release(s) will be could very well prove wrong.

Read this article earlier this morning and that bolded part had me wondering if they're planning on a big, one day release this year or maybe the author is just misinformed?

I read that earlier and was confused as well. But I think the "on Saturday, August 9" is describing the "Great Taste of the Midwest," and not the "special release." I'm pretty sure that it will all be made clear via The Facebook prior to the release.
