Looks like a lot of my favorites in the past could be making a return in the future. Wish he would resurrect the Crack'd Wheat as well. I agree with him that (aside froom VSB), that R&D Golden Ale might've been my favorite. That beer didnt get near the recognition it deserved. Also, when does the berliner hit? I need to buy a bunch and am headed up to Minnesota this weekend.

Agreed.

Loved R&D Golden Ale, but I think I liked BB Kriek better.

Today is May 1st. I'd guess soon, but probably not this weekend.

Surly has formally entered WI with last night's dinner at The Rumpus Room. Several stores around Milwaukee have Furious and Blakkr cans available for purchase today. Most are priced at $3/can for Furious and $5/can for Blakkr, methinks.

So I picked up a 4-pack of Lakefront My Turn: Johnson at Whole Foods yesterday that was bottle dated 4/28. I'd seriously put it in the conversation for best IIPA I've had. Screw all the Surly talk I'm buying more Johnson.

Anyone with advice/experience with getting lucky for GToM tickets via mail? Wondering if I should have my wife send in an entry too for better odds, but would hate to get stuck with 4 tickets. Or should I just enter once and hope to score tickets day of if I don't win them?

Odds of both of you winning are extremely slim. And even if you do there will be plenty of people (me) on here that didn't win and would gladly take them off your hands.

Worst case is you buy them day of - there are always lots of people selling them for face value just outside the gate.

I was figuring just that, so it's good to hear it first-hand and get it confirmed. Thanks!

Interesting factoid: BeerAdvocate has NG Berliner as one listing, whereas RateBeer has it as two - Unplugged and Thumbprint. The deliniation is that the Unplugged used Pinot Grigio and Reisling grapes, whereas last year's Thumbprint only used Reisling. Not sure what's in this year's incarnation. Self proclaimed beer experts say they can tell a difference and attribute it to the grapes. Not sure how, given the former was five years old when the latter was released.

Speaking of GTMW, I reserved a campsite at Lake Farm Park which is 3 miles away from Olin Park. If anyone else is staying there and wants to bottle share Friday night hit me up.

Anybody that seriously says they could tell a difference is a ******* liar.

Go read the reviews on RateBeer. There are lots of people saying they taste a difference. Thought I remember someone mentioning the grapes either in a review or in a BA post, but hell if I can't find it.

It's not just people comparing a fresh bottle with the 3+ year old original berliner release (not apples to apples)?

From Reviews on RateBeer:

Very similar to the original batch of Berliner Weiss. Perhaps not as grapey, but this is pretty delicious.

Although it was a long time ago, I do remember the Unplugged version to be a bit more vibrant, but this beer is still very nice.

Going to be in Appleton next week and through the 6th. Got plans for the weekend of 5/31-6/1 but if anyone wants to grab a beer on a weeknight lemme know.

Looks like I'm spending Memorial Day weekend in MKE. Any suggestions other than drinking at Sugar Maple? I love the place, but variety is the spice of life.

My favorites are Sugar Maple, Burnhearts, Palm Tavern, Romans, Stubby's, and Rumpus Room. If I was staying in town this weekend I'd be happy to meet up with you, however, I'll be in Indy.

yeahnatenelson John hit all of the good ones above plus Wisconsin Cheese Mart has a bunch of craft taps and (of course) a ton of cheese and they always have lots of cheese open for sampling. If you want you can go across the street to Old German Beer Hall for a free lunch when you buy a beer.

I would buy you a beer too but unfortunately will be in the craft beer desert known as Nebraska.

This. I'll throw in Nessun Dorma too if you want to venture up to Riverwest. Nothing you probably couldn't get any the Bayview bars though. Love Hollander/Central/Benelux/Trocadero too.

I'll be out of town as well. And I don't like FIBS, except when they are giving out pours at West Lakeview on Zwanze Day.

Estabrook beer garden seems to be open again: http://www.oldgermanbeerhall.com/estabrook-beer-garden/

pretty much exclusively Hofbräu beers but you can get it in liter quantities and drink it in a nice park.

It is open. Was there last Saturday. Five minute bike ride from my house. Schwing!
