I'd put William Chris on your list if you can. I'm no wine conosseir by any means, but I enjoyed every one of their wines. I believe they only do tasting by appointment.

They were on the possible inclusions list. They have just been promoted.

Best Texas IPA is Yellow Rose, but may or may not be available. I am a fan of 3 Nations GPA and Community Mosiac (if fresh) and those should be available in Plano.

ehhhhhhhhhh

I'm starting to go with the Pinthouse Pizza IPAs over Yellow Rose... then both of those miles above anything else readily available.

I've never had a Mosaic bottle I was happy I bought. Or Dankasaurous (sp) can.

There's some stuff down here that's starting to show promise though. But we'll see how they evolve.

I have been hearing alot of good things about Pinthouse, but have never been. How far off 35 is it? I don't go to Austin often, and when I do it is normally just driving through on the way to San Antonio to visit family? I get JK stops because my family lives off 281, so we take 290 over. Maybe I need to divert to try Pinthouse instead next time.

South location is right off 290/71 at Lamar in SW Austin.

Does any Pinthouse make it out of Austin though? Outside of special events, I don't believe so.

Yellow Rose is at least available in most metro areas (definitely San Antonio, Austin, Houston, maybe Dallas[?]), which is an advantage for tourists that might not make it into Austin.

If you're in Austin there's no beer that can touch PHP Electric Jellyfish right now as a "year-round" IPAs. Nada. Zip.

Nerp. But every time I go to Austin I have a hard time not getting a shitload of crowlers and drinking my bodyweight of their ipas.

"If fresh" is key. I don't even buy this in Austin any more if I don't know it came in that week. It falls off like a sumbitch and turns quickly into a malty mess.
Wife just returned from visiting her sister in DFW and brought back some Yellow Rose and Community Mosaic that were both brewed in the end of February. The Yellow Rose is very good and the Community is a malty mess.

Speaking of Texas IPA's, does Cedar Creek still make Gone A Rye? Really liked that one but she couldn't find any.

Hell yes.

They call it both a crowler and a can (video/tweet). The word can may be a reference to the bottle vs. growler debate, but they should consistently call it a crowler with the canning vs crowlering TABC issue.

Last I heard of that, the crowler had been approved by the judiciary, but the TABC persons were being ass-hats and considering or actually appealing the ruling. However, a bill in the legislature may clearly define crowlers as permissible.

Gone a rye is no more.

I think h&g a pale mosaic has the biggest teets for me in Tx.
EJ is good...but a pale mosaic is in the crusher sweet spot.
If I lived in ATX...I could have one when I felt like it. And that would be every single day.
You kind of have to plan your way around hammering down a 32 oz og can of EJ...which isn't really that hard if you like planning things out. But it's not that economical either.

A fair description for pretty much all of their beers.

They started off with alot of promise, but they have never quite taken that "next step". I feel like Mosiac is falling off faster than in the past and the rest of the core lineup is just meh. BA Legion is consistently good, but I feel like they are getting a bit stuck in their rut. I would love for them to revisit the BA Glenstemmons they had at one point.

^^^had BA glenstemmons at their anny party last month...it was not good. This was a 2013 or 2014 version...but it was barely 8%. The original version was well over 10%.

Community is more or less trying to cater to the masses...to make that cash money. Can't blame them because Dallas is not a beer-centric city in the least.

That makes me sad. They have a loyal following with some of my, "Drinking local beer is a cool thing to do" friends, but I am with you in that their stuff has become disappointing at large.

my favorite memory from the crowler debacle...will always be the article I read that started...
"they came and took it"...in reference to the cuvee come and take it shirt.
can't believe the progress being made here.

not a full time hater...but for whatever reason...never really liked cuvee's coffee

Has anyone seen any Stormy from North Peak in the Houston area? Brandon at D&Q was already sold out when I went looking for some

yeah. they cleaned him out pretty quick. there was some @ WF on bellaire...don't know if there's anymore.

EDIT:

i saw a funny on instagram. 3 guys did a video review saying they'd prefer Houston Haze over Treehouse Doppelganger.
an FB group (i don't have an FB account) was throwing shade at them about the review.

i'll be the first to admit that there's a bit of homerism in the local scene, as there is anywhere else.
a person's beer preference is subjective.....
but im not going to say Spindletap's very first NEIPA is on par w/ Treehouse/Tirehands/Trillium offerings.
I'd say they set a good bar of standard of that style locally.
i expect the next release will be more nuts, since alotta people didnt make to the first one.

I haven't chased any of the new Houston hazy IPAs, hoping to find them on tap sooner or later though

i've only tried wheez the juice from b52 and houston haze.
wheez had a good nose, but the flavor just drops out immediately after throwing it back.
houston haze was good. i didnt try baa baa's version. BusinessSloth said it was dank AF.
and here i am...just waiting on someone to make a badass gruit. LOL
