Well... they can if they sell under 10,000 bbl and classify themselves as a "brewpub", that's how Freetail and Jester King do direct sale.
Do they have actual kitchens? In CA breweries are regulated for their license by the state. Once you open a kitchen you're also licensed and inspected by the city/county and there's a Lot more hoops and **** to deal with. Which is why the tasting room with scehdled food trucks is the popular business model. A lot less red tape. Curious if the same holds true there.

I'll also be full moved to TX by Christmas. Buy a house hopefully in the first quarter of 2015. I also hope to have a few homebrew batches fermenting away by new years.

You don't have to have a kitchen to be a "brewpub". Jester King doesn't.

That's what I heard, so it's just based on production limits?
Pretty much.

There's also zoning issues that play into it as well (since most breweries are in industrial-zoned places) and distro plans (if a brewpub self-distros, they cannot serve guest taps).

You'll see when you get here. We bitch about this stuff a lot.

Zoning depends on the municipality. Houston has no zoning laws, so you can open a brewpub right next to the church holding aa meetings on Tuesday nights.

Sadly you cannot.

While there is no zoning, there are laws about selling alcohol within a certain range of a church or school.

Houston, amirite? Wouldnt expect otherwise.

Guise, Real Ale has their tacker signs on sale for $5. Anyone know what's up on what I am assuming will be a complete rebranding? They've been hinting at it on their FB page.

In no way can there be more bitching than goes on over full retard CA growler laws.

Possibilly heading to Austin for a little family trip in February. Anything other than jesterking I should be checking out in the surrounding areas? Nice places to eat? Activities, things to see or do non beer related.

Cheers Justin

I always refer people to austin360.com, which is a nice calendar of events/shows.

I'd definitely recommend touring the State Capitol as well.

As far as breweries go, definitely check out Hops & Grain and Austin Beerworks.

I am a state attraction. Check me out.

Visited Petroleum Station today. I like the vibe of that place and had Yellow Rose which I enjoyed. Good stuff...but a trek from Katy.
I'll come meet you for a drink next time I'm visiting my parents out there. Whole Foods and Alamo Drafthouse are good places for drafts around Katy.

Good deal. I hope to start brewing again in a week or 2 but lots of logistics to figure out. Hope to have batches being ready by Feb 1.

Soo...anyone hear anything about CBS in Houston being possible?
