Grabbed a sixer of that Pizza Port Shred Session this weekend and wow is it fantastic. Not nearly enough 5% amazingly flavorful beers out there that still have body. $16 a 6 pack ***** hard too.

Almost every can release everywhere down here is easy enough to get these days, it seems. Just so damn many of them around, not to mention the stuff that's been coming in to the Bottlecrafts and B&Vs of the world.

I’ve never been on EDSD, but when people on SDBF were complaining about how ridiculous it was, I knew that 1) I shouldn’t even bother and 2) I should leave SDBF, haha.

It's definitely a hive mind. It has it's uses if you lurk, and want to find a certain thing (type of food, dish, drink etc) in San Diego. Otherwise, if you have a dissenting opinion, prepare to get raked over the coals.

BA Rum Speedway....not sure what barrels were used, but that **** was pretty good. A tad on the sweeter side. Tommy also made a blend doing equal parts BA Private Stock, sea salt bavss, and ba rum speedway...very very smooth.

EDSD tries to put themselves on some kind of pedestal compared to Yelp, as if they're the answer. Same ****, different toilet.

Those on the front line won't tell me because I do not believe they know. I forgot to ask Peter/Vicky when they were drinking with a few of us the other night. So I want to say Swell, but I know that can't be it.

Edit: I'll add it to my list of questions to ask the next time I roll through. I was already charged with asking what they are bringing to MBCC since some eager swedes are really really eager to know.

I hadn't had regular Speedway until I bought a bottle at the Vons sale. It was tasting great, seemed like a firmer coffee character than I remember. But then again I stopped drinking it for a long time after having too many pours with acetaldehyde flavors. While it can be an off flavor produced by yeast, it can also be present in coffee, so maybe that's why they made the switch.

Going to be down in San Diego this weekend for a wedding. I'm flying down Friday morning (arrive around 10 am) and going to grab some food, some beers, etc. The other half arrives around 6:15 pm. It's been awhile since I've been in town on a weekday. Any general ideas on traffic heading toward the airport around that time (okay/bad/really bad/etc.)?

The wedding and our hotel are near 15/56, so I may be coming from that general direction. I figure I would probably try to get back to the general vicinity of the airport around maybe 5:30 - 6:00 and hang at Modern Times/Liberty Station/Little Italy if I have time to kill.

I think this would be the best option. You could even plan on arriving a little earlier if you wanted as there are plenty of things to do at liberty station (Stone, Bottlecraft, Soda & Swine). Taking Harbor would be the easiest route. If she is checking bags leaving about 15min after she lands works out well, otherwise head out a couple minutes after her flight lands.

I honestly wonder what Pat learned (and how it might change him going forward) from his experiences trying unsuccessfully to raise funding for expansion on his own, working unsuccessfully on a deal with a contract brewer in Minnesota, then partnering with and ultimately selling out to GF only to see that business get run into the ground and drag his once-revered brand down with it. Will he be content to run a dinky operation like the old days or does he still think he knows how to make it on a grand scale?

Definitely curious to see what comes of this. Sometimes I wonder if stories like this result in ownership realizing that their "dinky" operation wasn't so bad at all. Lot of freedoms are lost when you go big. Hard to not pursue that sort of opportunity, I'm sure, but as is the case with many things in life, the grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence.
