I should have clarified, I'm not going to be in SD proper but rather in the Vista/San Marcos/Carlsbad area, so Holiday seems like the most reasonable place so far. There are a couple of shops around PP Carlsbad, right? Was thinking of stopping there, but my wife is pushing back a little on my plan of "ALL BEER ALL DAY", so we'll see how it goes.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I haven't seen any in this area. If I do I will update. drbenzo have you seen any pop up around town?

Only shops in cbad would recommend would be pizzaport bottle shop, **** Texas liquor(way overpriced).

Last couple of years it's gotten way worse, just stick to pizzaport beers and you'll be fine.
If you have time, bagbys in oside would be another option.
That's the plan, My ideal itinerary would be some combo of Churchill's, PP, Bagby, and since it's pretty close to my in-law's place Toolbox. We'll see how it all works out, I need to do some convincing on my wife.

Try and hit Belching Beaver pub 980, would fit in well with the area you're in.

I'd also go ahead and visit Burgeon if you haven't yet.

Can we get the wife's response at this point?

I want to make it the way all the cool kids are making their cocktails. So I need to make a few ingredients. But, yes they really only take a minute or two.

Yeah, the ingredients sometimes take awhile. 30min for me to make some of these “simple” syrups because it takes awhile to dissolve & reduce. Can’t wait to make my first falernum. Want to make Zombies next, not nearly as easy as many of the other drinks I’ve been making.

I'm assuming this is like telling people visiting SF to visit Thirsty Bear.
Those are actually legit suggestions. Belching Beaver is surprisingly good, despite their ridiculous branding. They’ve turned their sours around in the past couple of years due to Peter, and their core/seasonal draft offerings are very enjoyable. Burgeon makes very solid beer as well, although they primarily focus on hazy **** (and make a great grisette).

All of that said, you should really just do Churchill’s, Bagby, and pizza port. If you have to cut one of those, I’d cut Bagby (you’ve been there before). Churchill’s will have the best taplist and pizza Port will have the best variety of in-house beers.

What weekend are you around? Ari and I are going to be in LA this weekend and then a couple weeks later for Woodshop but would happily meet up for a beer if schedules allow.

Well, I've been to all of those places before, I used to be down in Carlsbad somewhat frequently due to my in-laws living there. I'm leaving today, would be doing the SD stuff tomorrow, going to hit up Monkish on Saturday before the wedding. I wanted to squeeze in something else in LA but I don't think we really have time.

Highland Park if you have the time! They just opened their Chinatown brewery.
