so damn good

Anyone try Turbinado? Made some 2:1 white, 1:1 Turbinado & 3:1 Turbinado to add to the 1:1 white I already got. Looks like I’ll need heat to dissolve some of them. Was that a mistake, or does the raw sugar need to be Demerara?

Also, is the suggestion to use 3:1 raw for Mai Tais and either 2:1 white or 1:1 raw for Old Fashioneds? Just not clear on which simple syrups are best suited for each type of cocktail.
I use strictly turbinado - I like the sweetness profile on that better than white sugar.

You can also play around with your sweet ingredient too in old-fashioneds - for example, using maple syrup instead.

JFGI?

Side note, Karl Aurora is still one of the IPAs in San Diego.

Yup. My beer of choice at Disney.

I'm in the habit of always heating it because I also make vanilla and cinnamon syrups. You want to heat those, as it makes the infusion easier.

Yes, this is very true. If you're infusing other spices, heating it up is the way to go.

I’ve never made it this way, but some of the strained tiki recipes I’ve looked at call for this type of simple. Apparently the lack of heat creates a more delicate syrup or something to that effect.

Yeah, I started making it this way because I've heard heating it up can alter the flavors and add some bitterness. To be honest though, I don't think I've ever noticed a difference - I just do it that way because lazy.

I’ll be in Jalama with BigFrank and possibly nanobrew surfing, drinking Port cans and eating Jalama burgers

Edit: aren’t you going camping this weekend?

oops, I guess I never confirmed. Yes I will be there on Saturday morning. I have most of my shopping done*

*by most of my shopping complete I mean I have bought PP cans and nothing else.

Rainy forecast ruined those plans. I can do sub-30s weather, but we are not prepared for wet sub-30s weather.

Pivoting and thinking of heading up to the Central Coast maybe.

On another note, looks like Younger is hitting Toro Thurs or Fri.

Had PtY at the Bistro DIPA fest and, as usual, it's enjoyable but nothing special. Power Plant beats the **** out of it and is readily available, but I have no doubt people will still stand in line for PtY.

When Roustabout is good > *

My main complaint is that it has been inconsistent year to year.

I too think Power Plant is a better beer.

You are one up on me. Came down with a cold last night...trying to kill it now.

Went to Societe for Roustabout on Sat to get a growler, but decided against it after tasting it. I’d rather just buy more PP cans.

I’ll go for a little PtY, but probably only if it’s super easy to obtain (preferably Obriens). If I miss it entirely, that’s fine.

Me and my brother are planning on coming down to watch the Giants @ Padres game in early April. Any suggestions on good places to sit? I see that single game tickets go on sale 2/22, I assume that's going to be the best play to get tickets? Is it true that SS is no longer served there (paging sdreaper)?

It is no longer served from the Ryan Bro's coffee carts. This was true last year. We ended up finding that the 394 bar, 1st base side, was still selling bottles of it, but you had to have 2 ppl with you. The guy didn't fully comprehend that I could take down a full one with ease. But he was strict about it, so I made a random friend as my +1 so I could purchase the bottle. $16ish for the bottle last year....still the best deal in the ballpark.

Uncertain if that has continued this year though.

Really hope it has, $18.50 is what I pay for a bomber of Lagunitas imperial stout at Dodger Stadium. **** that stadium is a piece of ****.
