Surprised not to see more people I know at this Neighborhood event. AYCE food and beer, awesome cocktails, Talib on he stage. **** is awesome.

Also, they literally were not checking tickets. You could have walked in.
Solid festival within walking distance of my place. The food stood out more than the beers, with oysters from Ironside and crab sandwiches from Sensational being my favorites. We left the fest and went into Neighborhood for some stouts once Talib went full SJW during his set.

Another vote for the Neighborhood Block Party. Awesome time. Although, that False Idol Zombie and Nelson double fisting had me pretty toasty by the time Talib came on.

Was in a blind IPA tasting Saturday. I cheated and saw the whole list in advance, but everyone else only knew the two beers they brought. Gave each one a score of 1-10. All beers were fresh. Results were surprising. Top 11, with average scores:

1) HFS (8.78)
2) (tie) Citraholic (8)
2) (tie) Nelson (8)
4) Luponic Distortion 006 (7.8)
5) Karl Strauss Mosaic (7.3)
6) (tie) Breaking Bud (6.8)
6) (tie) Accumulated Knowledge (6.8)
8) Just Outstanding (6.7)
9) AleSmith IPA (6.6)
10) Pizza Port Fish (6.5)
11) Swami's (6.4)

You say Top 11, so I'm guessing you only did 11 beers? I'd agree though, pretty surprising.

Surprised by Swami's being that low. That is easily the beer I have had the most, pretty much a staple for me. I am curious how I would rank it. Any overall thoughts into why beers ranked where they did (too boozy, too bitter, better hop, less malt, etc.)?

11 seemed like a good cutoff, but I will say that the one that ended dead last was El Segundo Unity. It had some off flavors and was the only beer that people dumped.

I drink Swami's regularly as well. I thought it would rank in the middle of the pack because it's more bitter than a lot of IPAs these days, so I was surprised it finished as low as it did.

Was a fun time! Bummed I only had time to stay for half of it. Still managed to win $1 off of Sebowski & prove my palate is far superior than his. :p

Local Stone locations will tapping a pilot batch of my buddy Paul's AHA winning beer (imperial stout with chocolate, strawberry, and mostra coffee in collab with abnormal) on Friday before a country wide release in Sept. Crowler/growler fills allowed.

That one sounds fantastic on paper, I hope the beer executes. Strawberry can be a fickle bitch.

Totally agree, but that's a lineup I would have no issues with....

PP Carlsbad/Horus Ales collab Friendly Roast is a mighty tasty adjuncty stout. Chocolate fudge with notable additions of coffee and vanilla. On at bressi, along Eppig's asahi knockoff if anyone doesn't want to leave Orange County for that

I need to try that PP / Horus Aged Ales collaboration or any of the Horus Aged Ales collabs. He's done a few locally that have been tapped already I believe.

I can't make the Societe party Saturday. Anyone need a ticket? Just the party, not the full dinner thing. $30 or the Nelson equivalent.

I have 3 friends who have tickets to the fest part (1-5pm) and can't go.... I can facilitate ticket transfer if anyone else needs them!
