I'm sure it does well in the long-term, but breweries have to be feeling the initial investment hard - especially now, when it seems like there's a downturn in craft beer.

Yeah, crazy times in the industry for sure. I wouldn't be surprised if they took out the barrel room and put in a kitchen there and downsize the barrel program in the process.

They also need to brew a barleywine.

Stopped by PP Bressi for the first time in a few weeks tonight due to rain traffic. They’ve got a session beer, Admiral Lite, that’s absolutely fantastic. All CA-grown malt I believe, but I don’t know how brewing works. 4.2% and is everything I always want MT Ice to be. Chirpin’ Bird is also glorious, looking forward to Palapa IPA in a couple weeks. And Resident on tap for a nice trifecta of half pints. Now time to sit in traffic for an hour.

Really wish I lived near there. drbenzo has the life.

There is a new malting company up in NorCal called admiral malting. They seem to be putting out a solid product.
Whats the story on Palapa??
One of the few times I do not envy you.

You should hit me up next time. Also, went by belching beaver's restaurant. Holy smokes what a tap list. There are so many beers! Had tropical dancer, delicious. And charismatic robot which hid the 12% incredibly well! Although, it lost me on the pastry flavors. Seriously had no idea they brewed as much beer as they had on tap at the restaurant.

980 and the pub are making nothing but specialty beers now.

That’s what I thought about the malting company, this is the second “Admiral” beer they’ve released and I think cellarmaker has posted some stuff about admiral matings before. On the new Palapa beer, it’s a lower abv pale ale that, 3 years ago according to untappd, I thoroughly enjoyed. Bring me all the random PP hoppy beers in cans monthly.

Tuesday I get the final OK to hit the Mapping Nerd Conference in SD. I can't wait to shovel down all the mexi food into my face. 4.5 years gone it'll be interesting to see how the city has changed. And for the first time I won't be renting a car.
I look forward to our traditional Resident lunch -- and hearing about your nine-stop itineraries for each day haha.

Scooters everywhere!!

Which are super fun. And probably annoying as **** for anyone living there.

Only annoyed by the riders who think the rules of the road (or even the direction a road goes) doesn't apply to them. Love dodging the wrong-way riders downtown...

If my 4.5-year progression matches your general trajectory, you're probably going to hate everything.

Mrs Fish isn't coming with this year. She started a new job and has zero PTO time. Also instead of staying in PB I'll be in a hotel in Old Town. With coworkers so I think this time I'll be with after conference functions.

Will be a bit different this year. That being said, im planning on flying in Friday the 5th.

Nah, for the most part I'll be around in the weekend and during the conference just on the trolley from Old Towne to Convention center.

Monkey Paw is gone, right? I used to wade through the homeless for a Blairsteak but not an option. I still read the local news there a few times a week and aside from everything being more expensive I hear traffic is a nightmare and the homeless problem is worse.

What else has changed?

We’re actually excited about the Padres

Monkey Paw is gone, but that whole neighborhood is in mid-makeover. There's a ton of breweries there.
Amplified, Melvin, Duckfoot, Little Miss, Creative Creature, Knotty Barrel, Mission, Half Door, and soon to be Bay City and Lost Abbey.

And I think you can get a Blairsteak at Hamiltons now.

I'll check out a few of those for sure.
Plan is to be at Hammies Thursday so looks like I'll get my steaksammitch then.

you can skip all of these except Amplified and Melvin, probably

I'll be staying near the southeast corner of Balboa Park next month, though I'm sure we'll be going downtown. Any good vegetarian friendly taco places I can look for?

Thanks! I ate at Puesto the last time I was there and quite liked it. I think everything I ate the last time in San Diego was on a tortilla. I love eating breakfast in a place with a strong Mexican influence.
Check out el comal in north park for a solid breakfast (and lunch/dinner/anytime you need to consume food on a tortilla).

For BiL devotees, toronado tapped fremont’s brew 3k yesterday. Almost as pleasant of a surprise as finding Tyrsis and stawn there last night; anyone make it to disc golf this morning?
