Yeah, Beachwood, NPBC, and El Segundo have all made stellar Brut IPAs. HPB also had a Brut Pilsner around during SDBW that was one of my favorite beers of the year.

Hope you guys are all safe. Some of the flooding happening around town doesn't look fun at all.

Brut > Hazy
Agreed(in concept) but I feel like the style is still finding it's feet. A number of breweries need to dial in their process for the style to really shine. Feels like (for the ones I've tried) right now it's more just throw enzymes at a normal IPA and call it a day.
Better do your research smithj2154 , you have a presentation to prep for! :D
Test batches to Brew as well. I would like to serve one of mine along with it.

Had a Brut IPA from Southpark at O'Briens once. I don't recall the name but I remember enjoying it. Zero Project I think?

Not sure how I feel about the style. I think I like them, but not something I'd really seek out with any sort of regularity.

Yes! Zero Project was the name. I liked Sixth Sense more!

Whoa. Plz clarify. NEW FAVORITE?? Really? Is that a typo? Maybe "favorite new"?? Is this really better than the Citras and Mosaics and Simcoes and Nelsons of the world?

Haven't tried Strata, but I'm very much looking forward to it. Just trying to temper my expectations a bit here.

This is a fair question. And, I'm going to waffle between favorite-new versus new-favorite.

I like this hop A LOT. It is great to see a new varietal that has a big range and express so much character without the need of a supporting hop. Mosaic was definitely the last hop to come out that wowed me like this one is doing. I love Mosaic as a solo hop. In regards to the others you mentioned, in most cases I find that Citra, Simcoe, and Nelson each need some other supporting hop to cut their intensity or else you end up with cloying flavors.

I saw a lot of beers come out recently that incorporated Strata, but I hadn't seen anyone run it with a huge charge all by itself. It works. It's awesome.

I'm down in SD for the day Saturday - mainly to pick up my final Lost Abbey S&S beers for the year, but also to escape the cold. Would anyone be interested in splitting some beers someplace on Saturday night?
Bumping this for potential tiptouching - going to Lost Abbey at some point today, likely ending up in North Park later. Have packed some Holy Mountain Rauch cans for the discerning smoke-drinker, free to a good home

I'm heading out to California in a week or so and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for places (breweries/bars/restaurants) I should try to check out. Here's a pretty comprehensive list: https://www.talkbeer.com/community/threads/san-diego-visitors-guide.2069/

It's nearly a year old, but all of the suggestions are more or less on point.
