A little different when the place is already well-established, IMO. Their distributing here now - and I assume everywhere else they're considering for second/third/etc locations - so just the fact that they'd be making it here (and the other soon-to-be locations) could save them a ton. I was thinking more along the lines of these start-ups being in a bad spot here. Go somewhere beer isn't.

from what i understand, Melvin is setting up in both SD and Denver because they want to have their own presence in the country's biggest beer cities (should also make distribution easier). I am curious what type of CA licenses they are pursuing....

From the Brewbound article:
"Morris explained that Melvin is opening the new locations with a “hub-and-spoke model” in which the larger brewpubs feed smaller tasting rooms within a 45-minute radius."

for me, Melvin is also the out-of-state brewery I've bough the most in the past year.... Asterisk and Citradamus were both excellent DIPAs, and we get them super fresh from Wyoming. Went to their beer dinner at OBriens and they are a lively, partying crew.... they were all over the place, which I guess is part of their MO, but I don't think they rubbed everyone the right way that night (oh well).

Caution: Name drop alert..... The owner (Jeremy) is a young, passionate guy.... kind of reminds me of a wilder version of Jacob from MT..... the head brewer/co-founder (Kirk) is from the Pizza Port lineage (he was at both SC and Carlsbad), he left PP Carlsbad in 2005 and was eventually replaced there by Bagby (Tom and Skip actually brewed there temporarily until Bagby could leave his position at Oggis). Kirk then helped open up Breakwater in Oceanside (~2008?) and was head brewer there until suddenly departing about a year or so in (supposedly he is still a partial owner there).... he eventually ended up in Jackson, WY and began brewing at a Thai Restaurant/Brewpub ("Thai Me Up") with Jeremy and they developed the recipes for Melvin there... I was told Kirk still works at the original Jackson 3bbl brewpub on Melvin's small batches/recipe development (they have another brewer in charge of their large production brewery in Alpine, WY about 50 miles southwest of TMU). I've heard that Kirk doesn't have a lot of love for all his former SD brewing peers (not sure why) so don't think he is exactly angling to get back here... but who knows.... this is all pretty much hearsay....

i think most of the above is mostly true, but anyone correct me if i got something wrong.

If you like Tacos La Mezcla, they are replacing the kitchen at South Park Brewing starting tomorrow. Also, drink our beer. I’m going to have a small part in making it starting tomorrow.
I love Tacos la Mezcla, I need to stop in. I hope the beer has improved though. It's always been so "meh" every time I've come in.

AleSmith adds out-of-state shipping (to six states) for their beer club. Guess those memberships are a harder sell than they realized...
I would need someone else to confirm but modern times didn't sell out theirs either. And that's with three pickup sites available. Seems like the beer public is beginning to realize there is plenty of good beer on shelves and joining a club isn't essential to getting quality releases.
