I'm going to be in Cleveland all next week for a conference and dont really feel like going through 33 pages of this thread. Where should I go for drinks and is there anywhere to get good saisons?
Noble Beast and Masthead will be your best bets downtown. Both are very solid operations.

Hilton Downtown and no
i used to love tremont taphouse which is a quick cab ride away. haven't been in a couple of years though. there are also a bunch of spots in ohio city--nano, great lakes (beer's whatever but i do like the space), town hall, and the westside market is my favorite thing in cleveland.

Have to echo this. Since you won’t have a car that rules out a lot unless you Uber somewhere. But you’ll enjoy masthead. It’s the new hotness in town

In town this weekend for a wedding. Staying at the Hyatt Arcade. Rehearsal dinner is at Butcher & the Brewer. Planning on hitting Masthead or Noble Beast for lunch tomorrow afternoon after we land. Is Collision Bend worth a stop? Also, is Head Hunter on tap everywhere? It's been over two years since my last fresh HeadHunter and I've got a hankering.

Thanks to Dunt for letting me read the last page of this thread and get all of the relevant information I need.

Honestly I'm not a fan of Collision Bend. Been there twice and the whole place is off-putting to me. I found the beer mediocre, and the atmosphere kind of stuffy. That being said, Masthead and Noble Beast are great. Masthead has a can release this weekend I believe. You should be able to find Head Hunter on tap a lot of places. If you want some bottles, shoot me a message. I have a lot and would love to pass some along. I will probably be downtown Saturday.

If you eat at Masthead, get the Everything Pretzel with pimento cheese dip. Unreal. I don't even care if you don't like pretzels; this thing bangs hard. I've also heard that the food at Noble Beast is awesome, but I personally have not had it.

I would say that Collision Bend would be a good stop if it was summer time. Beer is pretty unremarkable right now, though the food is great. The patio in the summertime might be one of the best in Cleveland. In the dead of winter, I don't find a lot of appeal to the place.

Per Untappd, Head Hunter is on at the Corner Alley, which is just a few steps away from where you'll be for the rehearsal dinner.

Hello all. Just moved to Columbus from Pittsburgh. Haven't been on talkbeer in quite some time but I thought I would see how the local crowd is.

Thus far I have enjoyed the city, nice to have beer prices that aren't through the roof. Anyone have any "must stop at" craft beer destinations? I have been to several of the area breweries and a few of the bars. Always looking for a good recommendation.

Anyone do beer shares/get togethers in the area?

~Cheers

Just in case it slipped under your radar, don't sleep on the St. James Tavern. It looks like a hole in the wall (and it kinda is), but it's a great beer bar.

I will check it out for sure, thanks for the heads up.

I notice that a place called Bob's Bar is close to where I live. Looks like they have a great tap list, but the prices are a little closer to "Pittsburgh" pricing (this is based on looking at their online tap list postings). Is the place pretty solid? I haven't been in there yet since I usually have my 9 month old with me and they are 21 and older establishment.

Bob's is amazing... always very solid beer choices and just a great spot for numerous reasons. Wouldn't clasify it as 'hip' or even 'nice' for that matter but defiantly one of my favorite bars in Columbus. Also, I have a 8 month old daughter and as many times as I've tried to push my wife to let me bring her to Bob's she says no and for reasons that she's probably right about.

It sounds like you live in the bubble of Columbus as some of us like to call it. I'm about a mile north of bob's and TDBuck and brewtus are both in the area as well.

Next time we try to get together for a share I'll send you a note.. I will say although we try to get together often we usually have to kick it down the road as everyone has crazy schedules.

Bobs is the self appointed “cultural hub of the Midwest”. Always a solid tap list and a great jukebox that I usually overtake with 20 min Phish and Dead jams.

Like he said good cluster of us in that area. I’m 1.5 mile north on high street from Bobs. Theres a good group of guys from this site/city that get together it’s just been tougher recently.

Awesome guys, thanks for the info. I have noticed a lot of bars are 21 and older so I have mostly been hitting up breweries and the UA Daily Growler. They seem like good spots to take the little one and not feel like you are pissing everyone off.

Sounds like you are both near by, I am just north of the Graceland shopping center in Clintonville. Only been here since the beginning of March so I'm just getting my feet wet.

Yeah I hear you on the scheduling, but would love to crack some bottles soon. I have a Double Oaked Hipster Brunch and a few Speciation bottles i've been dying to crack (among others).

So in Cincinnati, Rhinegeist and Mad Tree are among the better breweries to visit still, right? Is there anything newer or are there other spots we should try to hit this weekend?

Edit: beer bar recs welcome, too. Thx

Taft's Ale House
50 West
Urban Artifact

Liberty Bar and Bottle
Cappy's
Jungle Jims

Pontiac BBQ
The Senate

Just a few things off the top of my head.

I don't know where you're staying, but in addition to the stuff you listed, and the recs BuckTuckian gave, I stayed in OTR a couple years ago and really enjoyed The Eagle for beers and fried chicken, and 16-bit (barcade type place). For breakfast I liked what I had at Holtman's Donut Shop, and the coffee at Coffee Emporium was really ******* good.

And get some chili while you're there. And don't be too proud to wear a bib while eating it.

Listermans puts out good beer but I’m not sure about the taproom experience.

One of my favorite burger spots is down there Terry’s Turf Club. Higher end burger in a dive spot. Love drinking a couple Little Kings there.

Not sure if you are into Cincinnati chili but hitting one of the numerous nieghborhood chili parlors is always a good idea.

Kung Fu Chu's Amerasia in Covington (just across the bridge from downtown Cincy) has badass food, big portions and fairly inexpensive, a solid tap and bottle selection, and they play older hip hop and kung fu films. They are are very conservative on their spice scale, mind you. The use habanero for the 4-5, ghost peppers for 6-8, and Carolina Reapers for the 9-10, approximately. **** is hot, but they get great flavor out of their peppers.

Urban Artifact if you're into sours and Listermann's if you're into juicebro IPAs. Both have cool taprooms. And, like TDBuck says, Cincinnati chili is a unique thing you should try out if you're not weirded out by the concept. There are chain places all over town, but I'd recommend one of the mom and pops. Camp Washington Chili (near Urban Artifact) or Pleasant Ridge Chili are the best of those IMO.

Also, if you visit Terry's Turf Club, Streetside Brewing is on the way out there. They seem to specialize in juicebro IPAs as well and I've heard good things.

Grandview Heights Market District had Maine Lunch on tap when I stopped by there on Friday. Does that pop up often around town? Do people even care or are they too busy waiting in line for the next hazy ipa? ;) They also had Jamaican Speedway on tap.

Snagged the last bottle of Zombie Dust at North Market (holy hell that place is a zoo on a Saturday) and enjoyed it while people watching. Picked up a bottle of the latest batch of B.O.R.I.S. Royale as well, anyone had it yet? Loved the batch from a few years ago.

I'll be heading to Cleveland for a few days in May for PyCon. Thu evening I have no plans after the conference. Fri evening I'll either go to a Cavs game if they're still in it or a baseball game if not. Sat evening the plan is all of us from work who are coming for the same reason will go out to drinks in the early evening and who knows how long after that.

There's eleven of us of mixed preference (i.e. I don't think everyone drinks beer but everyone drinks) - would y'all say that Masthead or Noble Beast is better for such a group? (Standing room only is okay if necessary.)

And anyone wanna meet up Thursday evening after 8:30? I'm free starting then.

Also if anyone has lunch suggestions walking distance from the convention center, I'd love to take advantage of that instead of eating convention center food.

Masthead is definitely the better choice. Much more seating there. Noble Beast is good, but smaller. Depending on what days in May I may be able to meet up. Wife is going out of town the 11th-13th so I'm a free man that weekend.

If you end up going to an Indians game, try and buy a District Ticket. It's a $15 standing room only ticket that comes with a free domestic beer or credit towards a better beer :) stand at the drink rails near The Corner bar and have a good time

So much this. That's the only way I go to a game anymore. I get antsy sitting in the seats, plus its a great deal. You have more room to eat and hang out.

Wonderful, thank you. I'm putting Masthead as the plan.

I'll be there from about 9pm on May 9 until about 6pm on May 13. Would definitely be down to meet up.

But no seats at all? I very much enjoy sitting at ballgames, especially if I've been standing all day (which I will have been doing).
