Ok, enlighten me then. You're saying that it should be an acceptable practice in the beer scene to deny sales to someone because you merely suspect them of bottle flipping? I shouldn't have a problem with that and speak upon it to whoever will listen?

I didn't, until the person picking beer up for me was banned. I wanted nothing to do with their beer anymore and sold the one bottle of The Blueberry I had in my cellar to prove a point, while donating the other 12 bottles in my cellar to BFNA. Was that the best way to prove my point? Probably not, but hey it is what it is and has nothing to do with "entitlement".

Also, to add to this I now regularly sell and buy beer on the secondary market. I find it much easier and much more enjoyable then trying to trade for and with the same beers. Lame that beer has become that, with everyone trying to win every trade out there, but as I said above it is what it is.

so you do sell and did sell de garde beers? but they were wrong to suspect you? this sounds like 4 year old levels of entitlement to me.

but please do explain your bottle logic situation in your own words. you have such an interesting perspective on events concerning you. I would love to hear your side of the story all this time later
 
Dude, it's not the actual actions, or lack there of, in this case. It's the fact that, you have a reputation at this point and you know it. Talking about people complaining about a brewery/beer, while not for the same exact reasons, comes off as incredibly hypocritical. You lack the self awareness to realize that you are not the person to bring any type of complaining up.

Because of your reputation, no one wants to hear your opinion on complaints because of your history.

Soooo because I have complained about breweries in the past (valid or invalid) I can't comment on people being entitled here? Me doing so, means I lack self awareness. Got it.
 
Dude, why aren't you flipping the **** out that they didn't set limits so you could get some? You should catch some of the whining going on over at that other place. They really should change the name of that place to Beer Entitlement. A few posters are being far from elegant about this.
That other place? I barley show up here anymore... feels good to know less about beer media related things, especially FB and BA.

In case you all didn't see it, Steven released the expected Theory of Leisure Committee included beers for 2019 (obviously subject to change, but lets hope not)

DB Wizards Blend are definitely my top 2 wants, assuming I make it back in for next year.

That "beautiful meadows" BA Modem Tones is one of my favorites from this year, up there with Monster Tones. So the double barrel tones is probably the highlight of the list for me, especially because I've loved the few apple brandy BA beers I've had.
 
September 2018 Preview Tasting

Assorted Notes:
1) This is the last sale before Theory of Leisure invites for next year are decided so it's time to empty your 401k, starve your kids, and spend irresponsibly in the hopes of getting an opportunity to drop even more cash on beer next year. If you haven't sent your tasting room receipts in, do so this week to make sure they're counted in the final spending totals.

2) As you likely saw on social media, Lomaland is being retired so if you're fan, buy it up and enjoy it. It sounds like it will allow Modern Times the ability to make more Ice - it wasn't clear if Ice will officially be a year-round distro beer or if that's still pending, but we'll certainly be seeing more of it. Additionally, it sounds like they want to package a more rustic/traditional saison once Anaheim is up and running, which I'm all for. I know some will mourn Lomaland's retirement but I think they can do a lot more with a canned saison.

3) Harvest of Memories is on tap at Lomaland and tasting mighty nice already. Huge, juicy aromatic and flavor, soft mouthfeel, minimal bitterness. I'm a fan.

Tasting Notes:
1) Nitro Devil's Teeth Aged in Bourbon Barrels w/ NOLA Coffee & Almonds
Style: Imperial Stout w/ Coffee, Chicory, Vanilla, & Almonds
Score: 4.75
Notes: The base this year is a blend of Devil's Teeth and Mega Devil's Teeth, as they feel combining the two yields a better canvas for the adjuncts. The nose opens with prominent vanilla and a big dose of almond, both a bit heavier than I recall, with coffee being evident but perhaps slightly less assertive and chicory providing a balancing element to restrain the vanilla from becoming overwhelming. The base also shines through a bit more in the nose this year with a semisweet chocolate element and bourbon barrel character floating around in the background. Chocolate and coffee combine to form a mocha flavor that leads on the palate, followed by a strong wave of vanilla and mild almonds, leading to a long, well-integrated adjunct heavy finish. I don't think there's any question they have the nitro process dialed in at this point, but if anyone is wondering, the mouthfeel was on point. I struggled a bit to decide whether it lived up to last year's edition, which blew me (and a lot of other people away) - my verdict at the moment is that it lacks a certain je ne sais quoi to put it into five star territory, but that could also be a byproduct of not having the same impact as the first sip from the first batch. Ultimately, I think it's equal in quality to its predecessor, just a bit different - slightly sweeter base, a bit more almond shining through - but I'm looking forward to sitting on my couch with a full can and picking it apart in more depth.

2) Altar of the Orc Lord Aged in Cognac Barrels
Style: Blended Barleywine
Score: 4.25
Notes: Altar of the Orc Lord is a blend of Infinity Gauntlet and Oblivion Ring - neither is likely to see barrel-aged releases on their own as they feel the blend works better than either component on its own. The beer spent 18 months in cognac barrels and they added in a small amount of Oblivion Ring aged in bourbon barrels to round out both the base and barrel profile. The aroma is heavy on cognac spirit character, followed by notable oak, raisins, dark brown sugar, and faint tobacco. The palate goes harder on dark fruits with figs and raisins leading the way and dark cherries supporting, followed by brown sugar - not quite caramel - and continuing into a long finish of cognac. My score on this is more a reflection of my personal preference for barleywines - I'm a fan of a flavor profile centered on caramel and toffee with big supporting leather and tobacco - but if you like examples of the style that lean heavier towards dark fruits, this should be right in your wheelhouse. Even setting aside my preferences, it's a damn good beer, just not my ideal interpretation of the style.

3) Altar of the Orc Lord Aged in Bourbon Barrels w/ Coconut, Cocoa Nibs, & Vanilla
Style: Pastrywine
Score: 4.5
Notes: As with the cognac version, this is a blend of Infinity Gauntlet and Oblivion Ring, both aged in bourbon barrels. I believe they said 12.5 lbs/bbl coconut, 1 lb/bbl vanilla, and 2.5 lbs/bbl of toasted cocoa nibs were added, but I might have misheard the cocoa quantity. The nose is a mishmash of coconut, vanilla, and barrel-derived marshmallow notes that all combine to form a coconut macaroon effect, along with some bakers chocolate and dark fruits poking through from the base. The palate largely follows the aroma with coconut and vanilla up front, cocoa taking a more assertive role along with bourbon barrel notes and dark fruit, leading into a lightly oaked finish that displays more of the base than the adjuncts. The coconut isn't quite as dominant as it was in Deeds & Exploits but if you enjoyed that, you should be a pretty big fan of this one.

4) Monsters' Park Aged in Spanish Brandy Barrels w/ Figs & Cocoa Nibs
Style: Imperial Stout
Score: 4.75
Notes: The beer spent 14 months in barrels and was adjuncted with dried black mission figs and toasted cocoa nibs. Holy ******* fig, the fruit smell jumps right out of the glass before you even put it up to your nose. Massive dried fig character obviously leads, followed by a heavy dose of dark chocolate, blackstrap molasses, brandy, and light French oak. The flavor opens with a quick hit of bakers chocolate before darker cocoa and barrel-derived dark fruits, followed by a big wave of figs that leads into the finish. Opinions seemed to be split on whether it beats batch 1 - I'm firmly in the camp of this batch being better. The barrel character still comes through clearly but the adjuncts have been amped up without being overwhelming. I hope this ends up being a yearly release but this year's batch is just phenomenal.

5) DDH Blam! Blam!
Style: Hazy IPA
Score: 4.25
Notes: Modern Times' relationship with NZ hop growers is paying clear dividends this month, it's clear they got their hands on some excellent Nelson hops. The nose opens with a bit of bitter pine resin - which will likely decrease as the beer sits in cans for another week or so - followed by big white wine, passion fruit, mango, and some background melon notes. The palate opens with a touch of the aforementioned bitterness before white wine takes back over, followed by more restrained mango and tropical fruits, a touch more melon, and a background dankness that helps round the beer out. It's already tasting good, but I'd expect a bit of improvement as it conditions in the cans.

6) Hyper Halo
Style: Berliner w/ Tangerines, Mango, Guava, and Strawberry
Score: 4.25
Notes: Oddly enough, this fruit combination was inspired by a Rockstar energy drink flavor that DOBO Tim picked up. I have some ideas in this realm - fruit combinations inspired by Steel Reserve's Alloy Series, specifically - but I'm going to keep them to myself for now. I can only imagine what sort of glittery abominations the special projects team would unleash if I start suggesting they brew a Spiked Punch clone. Anyway, the fruit combination works beautifully on this one - the nose opened with a big dose of strawberry, followed by tangerine with the mango and guava marrying into a broad tropical fruit profile. On the palate, tangerine was more assertive but not to the detriment of the other fruits - they're all well-integrated but still individually discernable, weaving in and out of each other in a tropical fruit symphony. The acidity on this batch is remarkably soft, possibly the softest yet. Some people seem to be big fans of that, while I prefer a bit more acidity to help the fruit profile really pop. Not my favorite of the series due to that fact, but I love the fruit combination enough that I can picture drinking a good deal of this.
