I'm not going :( just have a couple friends who are on the fence of going and was going to attempt to help a brother out :)

What are they claiming? Am I missing out on some Beer Facebook drama?
Yep. There's a video of them on October 13th filling the barrels of barleywine for Winter solstice...then the label saying 9 months... Kuhnhenn said they were filled in February in response to someone's post...video says October...

Well they claim 9 months in the barrel but they posted a video of them specifically saying they were filling barrels with barleywine for solstice in October. I dont have FB but I am getting updates on the hilarity of them being called out for that and their inability to proofread anything. The eventbright page had incorrect dates on it.

True story

Not sure how true this is but I heard today that they ran out of Raspberry extract so KRE is a mix of Raspberry and Cherry.
If this is true, it'd probably be delicious if they balanced it better instead of just trying to hide the cherry flavor for more fruit flavor...make a different beer as a test, Hommage/Appreciation eisbock...it could have been a homerun...but this may, or may not be true.

Two whole months. Despite what they are saying they filled the barrels in October. There is record of it.
I think this line seals it:

A heavy handed dose of aromatic American hops add a spicy-citrus note that helps to balance the sweetness of the rich malts, which showcase flavors of brown sugar alongside rich, dark fruits.

I've drank a ton of BBBW in my life and I've never gotten a hop bite ever. Just spun butterscotch for days. Sound like a few weeks in the barrel didn't take the edge off.

Kuhnhenn is pretty much on the same page as Atwater for me right now.

I'd rather drink Atwater. At least the building is cool.

Hello people of the Metro Detroit area. I am seeking to try the best beer attainable at the moment from your area. I am sending some beer to my cousin and he asked me what I want in return, I've got no clue what's good up your way so here I am looking for some assistance.

My cousin isn't a rookie but isn't a pro. I'm not trying to send him down the path of one off wait in line for a long time beers but I am trying to get him to hit a spot or two that have the goods and possibly fill a few growlers/crowlers or get cans/bottles to send back. Mainly looking for some tasty IPA's and or Stouts. I'm aware of the big named spots but with the way craft beer moves these days and everybody opening some small spot there are surely a lot of spots I don't know about and maybe my cousin doesn't know of either.

So who's got the goods, any juicy IPA's you guys are slugging back and trying to keep the word from getting out on. I'll be sending my cousins some Kane IPA's, Tired Hands, maybe some trillium etc. looking for the Michigan equivalent in the hop game and or stouts. Any bourbon barrel aged stouts etc are good too.

Was going to try to send him to Schramms for the release the other day but didn't want that to have to be his first experience with any major release.

Thanks for any assistance. Cheers and happy holidays

Just tell him to buy fresh Two Hearted.

There are tons of folks in Detroit who trade Schramms for the stuff you are sending your cousin because aside from Shorts and Oddside, Michigan breweries don't tend to put juice in their IPAs (that I can think of, but I spend my time at meaderies). A Smile of Fortune sold out yesterday so you are all clear to send him in to Schramm's. Otherwise just ask him for what is fresh and good if he isn't a noob. You'll be fine.

So .... reports were bbbw tasted weird (I dunno - they pulled before I got there Sunday). Labels say 2014. I remember 2014 bottles being weird (as opposed to last year, which was delicious). Guy selling bottles at the strip mall tasting room didn't know (he thought the eventbrite tickets stated they were vintage bbbw bottles). But he said '4D is definitely new.". Course, he hadn't looked at the labels on those bottles either (2015). I asked him about that, and he just shrugged his shoulders.

Quirky!

Got pics of the bottles/labels?

Going to post some pics when I get home.

Bbbbw tasted like I remember the 14 tasting which wasn't their best work.

The bottle of 4D we opened yesterday wasn't 4D. Not sure what it was but the bartender even said so.

Come to think of it I know there was a bb4d in 2015 but no regular. No check ins on untapped for one either.

Afraid? It's as good as anything you're going to find that's much more "rare" or at least hyped.

not afraid of bc of quality, i love two hearted, but i can get it myself in PA... not looking for him to send me stuff i can get myself was the intention of my written words
